Not the most helpfull answer sorry, but it would kinda surprise me if it wouldn't work. You basically simulate a handheld pc with the steamdeck? But maybe someone can confirm...

no need for "crossplay" steamdeck is a normal pc

So it works like normal because I've been trying to talk a friend into PC gaming but with how expensive pcs are today so steamdeck is the next best thing

it's not just the next best thing. it's damn good tbh. for $400 you basically get a 1050 which is anywhere from 140-400 depending on how bad scalping is in your area. 16gb ddr5lp and a zen2 4c 8thread 2.4-3.5ghz cpu. the price proposition is straight nutty on the low end. after that you can get a usb-c hub with passtrhough power for like $20 and use an old controller to game on the tv when you get tired of the handheld experience. not to mention it has a fully functional desktop enviroment. it's basically a $400 gaming laptop that's more portable and more powerful than it's price range should offer

So how would it perform when docked to a large 4k TV for MH Rise or any game I'm trying to convince my friend and he's wondering about docking performance

Yes
Steamdeck is a pc so games that run on there will have "crossplay" with "normal pc players"
Just keep in mind that the steamdeck out of the box is running a Linux distro as operating system compared to most pcs running Windows so there are some games that don't work out of the box, best to check before hand
On the bright sight the game compatibility list is growing each day

How does it perform with 4 players? Especially on sunbreak maps and flooded forest

I think rise might be possible in 4k with 30fps but most modern games I highly doubt it

If it's a 4K TV can't you just change the resolution to like 1080p in game and make the game run that resolution I'm guessing yes because it's basically a small pc
Sorry if this is a stupid question

You can always just set the resolution lower but the higher the native resolution of the screen/tv and the bigger the screen itself the worse it will look (if you ever used a switch in handheld and in docked mode you will know exactly what I mean), if you really wanna make sure you might want to hook up your pc to his TV and test out some games in 1080p or maybe even 720p BC iirc the steamdeck itself has a 720p screen so the hardware will be tailored more to this resolution

He's manly worried about it dropping below that 60fps because it's such a large TV which is why I was wondering if lowering the resolution would work

It will definitely work, the graphical fidelity will suffer tho and as this stuff is subjective the only way to make sure is trying it on his TV
