MONSTER HUNTER RISE

MONSTER HUNTER RISE

Statistiche:
Afflicted Monsters - Most Unfun thing in MH yet.
Title.

Afflicted monsters are the most unfun thing to grind in the Monster Hunter series yet.
It is the most painfully obvious bottom-of-the-creative-barrel scraping yet.

Lets just reroll the entire roster monsters in the game, because creating new monsters is hard, and lets just:
- add an extra attack here
- increase a hitbox there
- oh, forgot the lowest hanging fruit we could pick... increase speed, HP, resistances and armor
- umm... lets make them only fight in the most claustrophobic areas of a map

Have we forgotten anything?

Ah! And for good measure, lets also fill the areas theyll exclusively fight in with trash mobs who only have status effect attacks.
Because why not - were outta ideas.

Q&A TEAM: But if these hunts arent fun, how are we going to make people play them?

...pffftt EASY! We'll just lock all the top gear behind them.

HR and MR hunts are fine.
But Afflicted hunts are just plain unfun.

UPDATE:
For those who read the above and just see "GiT gUd" - allow me to elaborate.
Afflicted are not hard. Theyre just boring, uninspired hunts that take longer.
They are not interesting.
That is the point of the post... not that theyre too hard. Theyre not. Theyre just boring.

YOU SUCK ASS AT THIS GAME
I think they're fine design wise. It helps give a more healthy end-game rather than just grind accessories bro. It helps low tier monsters catch up with the end-game elder dragons in terms of difficulty, even surpass them in some cases. As a result there's a healthy amount of interesting and challenging fights for end-game.

Sure it's a content pad, but so is tempered monsters and they really are more fun and interesting than tempered monsters. Also the rewards are better too than dumb grinding for deco drops. Glad there's none of that here at least.

Not just 4U but 3U and 2U (Freedom Unite) all had you have to do all guild quests against Mp scaled monsters to unlock the best stuff. Freedom had the fatalis trio and tri had abyss lagi

Guild Quests always had HP values set for Multiplayer, that's been a thing in the entire history of the franchise until SB, where the values are set depending on the amount of players. The reason I don't nor anyone complain about monster HP in Guild Quests is because it makes sense, if the monsters had Solo HP values they would die in 1 minute.

The point I was making was that Arzuros, as an example, this gets worse and worse the higher the Afflicted Rank, SOLO, has more HP than the end game bosses in the franchise and by quite a lot. In Multiplayer that amount of HP goes even higher, with some monsters reaching almost 100k. The issue about having low rank monsters with HP pools bigger than endgame monsters like Fatalis, Deviants, Ex Deviants and such is that, those I mentioned, are actually a threat, they can and will kill you if you are not good. Whereas an Arzorus, as an example, has no way of killing a hunter save for killing them of boredom, so the hunt is basically 1 or 4 hunters hitting a literal punching bag, that has no way to defend itself, for 10-15 minutes. That's the issue.

No one goes, "Oh my God, Fatalis has 60k HP, such HP bloat!" Because it is an endgame boss meant the be fought with endgame gear and the fight is fun and involved, he's not just a punching bag. People go "Why the fk this entry level monster has 70+k HP!?" because it is that, an entry level monster, one that with that amount of HP only becomes a punchingbag.
Base Rise: "Games too easy, monsters die too fast!"

Sunbreak: "too much HP! They're too boring!"

JFC people, make up your mind

thats how you get banned on steam

Unlike the older games though you get more opportunity to do dmg here thanks to the free dmg that comes from taking out the afflicted parts.

The Hp of all 1 and 2 Star afflicted monsters were reduced as well last patch. You dont have to engage much with the system if you dont want to. Ive done the bare minimun to craft a few weapons and the rest is back to hunting other monsters
After getting to A4 it's starting to feel a bit better when I don't have to fight against Great Jaggi level monsters anymore. I think they should definitely lower the health on those earlier monsters, it just feels so dumb to keep wailing on them. And I got to afflicted monsters by the time they were already nerfed, so I can just imagine how painful crap like Arzuros was before it.

Messaggio originale di Coronel Empoleon:
People since base Rise were asking for monsters that lasted longer and that could stand their ground on endgame, people asked why It didn't have at least something like tempered, hyper or frenzied monsters, now that we have something like this but even more involved just tells me that people don't know what they want, same for the people that complained that World and Iceborne's roster was just wyverns, specially brutes and then in sunbreak complains about the lack of brute and piscine wyverns.
Wow it's almost as if there were different groups of people that liked different things.
I feel like it differs a lot between monster to monster. The bears in particular in A1 feel spongy and like they take forever because they just have bad hitzones all over, or are smaller targets and hard to hit, but the birds die just as fast as anything. Basarios, too, is especially awful. But with later ranks they generally do feel less spongy if you're playing properly. If you fail to prevent the explosions, however, it can feel like a slog since they won't be having as many openings.
i enjoy hunting them. could be a bit more challenging, thats true
they might as well just bring back frenzy virus from mh4. at least I can feel good killing the same monster twice in 5 min.

wouldn't mind seeing hyper , frenzy and afflicted all in one game
I just find them boring because I don't wanna fight apex monsters again just as afflicted like come how many times do you wanna reuse these

Yeah , frenzy lv140 guild quest , with 300% hp and a monster fart can oneshot you
thats fun
The Afflicted aren't bad at all. My only problem with them is that the harder monsters aren't available with that status yet.

They're similar to frenzied monsters from 4U with their increased speed, and avoid the pitfalls of the most unfun "bounce everywhere but the face" mechanics of Apex monsters from the same game. Popping the glowing zones on them deals pretty considerable damage and most Afflicted, even with my half assed unoptimized sets, I'm still clearing them in 8 minutes or less. That's only going to improve as I finally get to make Sinister Grudge gear.

TBH, it's the "fairest" option, without giving certain monsters more love than others. A problem MH has had is that specific monsters ALWAYS would get catered to more than others. An example is Seregios, a flagship of a very well selling game, got no deviants, in a game where nearly every monster got a deviant. He has no subspecies, no rare, no variant. He gets no love, even Mizu seems slated to be getting something. Now, with afflicteds, it gives every monster a chance to shine a bit. Sure, it's a "cop out" if you want to look at it that way, but get this: Why did Apex Mizu get an Apex, instead of narga or tiggy? It was an unnecessary bias. Afflicted allow for less bias, and give all monsters an equal treatment.

Every Apex in base Rise was a callback to the Deviant monsters in MHGU. Seregios didn't get a Deviant in MHGU because it didn't debut in MHGU. In fact, Mizu got left out of the Deviant circle in its own base game, MHG, because there only Glavenus got a Deviant of the Fated Four. In MHGU they corrected for this and made Boltreaver Astalos (its Ex hunt being one of the best in the series), Soulseer Mizutsune, and Elderfrost Gammoth, to pair along with Hellblade Glavenus. Mizu probably got an Apex form over other monsters because, 1, Soulseer fireball bubbles is easy, but also because it's a very Japanese monster in a very Japanese themed game, and was also the 2nd most popular monster in Japan (1 was Zinogre, 2 = Mizu, 3 was Nargacuga).

So the reason Seregios doesn't have an Apex form in Sunbreak is because Apexes were dropped, and it didn't have a Deviant in MHG/U to source attacks from.

Nargacuga and Tigrex did receive a Deviant though, and I was actually hoping they would have an Apex form, but alas Sunbreak dropped them. Narga did, however, receive an attack from the Silverwind Deviant, just like Astalos has the laser sword attack that was normally only on Boltreaver. Really, the only one left out that you mentioned is Seregios, which sucks because it sounds like you like him a lot. Razorblade Seregios needs to be a new Steve subspecies- let him drop scales like Bazel but they make you bleed lol.
