Afflicted Monsters - Most Unfun thing in MH yet.
Title.

Afflicted monsters are the most unfun thing to grind in the Monster Hunter series yet.
It is the most painfully obvious bottom-of-the-creative-barrel scraping yet.

Lets just reroll the entire roster monsters in the game, because creating new monsters is hard, and lets just:
- add an extra attack here
- increase a hitbox there
- oh, forgot the lowest hanging fruit we could pick... increase speed, HP, resistances and armor
- umm... lets make them only fight in the most claustrophobic areas of a map

Have we forgotten anything?

Ah! And for good measure, lets also fill the areas theyll exclusively fight in with trash mobs who only have status effect attacks.
Because why not - were outta ideas.

Q&A TEAM: But if these hunts arent fun, how are we going to make people play them?

...pffftt EASY! We'll just lock all the top gear behind them.

HR and MR hunts are fine.
But Afflicted hunts are just plain unfun.

For those who read the above and just see "GiT gUd" - allow me to elaborate.
Afflicted are not hard. Theyre just boring, uninspired hunts that take longer.
They are not interesting.
That is the point of the post... not that theyre too hard. Theyre not. Theyre just boring.

I personally like the Afflicted. Not because of the increased HP and damage per se, but the difference in speed and the minigame of popping zits. It feels more engaging than regular fights.. And brings lower tier monsters to a more appreciable level with endgame gear, as opposed to just being practically not even in the game when you reach endgame. I also like the health augment effect of having bloodblight, but... I think it honestly actually makes them easier than regular monsters in some instances, since you don't necessarily need to heal as much.

it's to artificially inflate how many hours you need to put into the game to win the campaign so it doesn't look bad in reviews

Gotta love all the shills here pretending that monsters with 3 times more HP than usual as "Endgame" is how "MH has always been". Because oh boy, not it was freaking not.

The fact that an Afflicted Arzuros has more HP than the boss of the expansion and even more ridiculous, more HP than Fatalis in Iceborne, is completely absurd and something that literally has never been a thing in the series until now.

Kudos to the crazy one calling them better than Tempered and Hypers. I would bet my entire life that if they had fought a Pukei Pukei with 80HK in World or a Hyper Tetsucabra with 100k HP in GU for 1 or 2 "Afflicted" drops and a single Layared voucher, they would be calling that the biggest pile of sh*t ever.

Betting your life on something as stupid as this makes me think that you do not value your own life at all. I really don't see your point, tempered and arch tempered in world did not give you free damage like the aflicted monsters do.

You spend so much time here, why is that? Go play world or whatever floats your boat, why do you waste your time on something you seem not to enjoy at all?

Except it has apart from World/Iceborne
All the older games after you finished the village quests and moved onto the guild quests where those Monsters had Multiplayer Hp by default

4U 140 Guild Quests legit had 300% health. And you grinded them for a low chance at a mediocre relic weapon. Afflicteds are better than tempered and hypers, but that isn't saying much, they're all not that great.
EX Deviants also had insane HP (for pre-World standards) and damage modifiers, Snowbaron had like 17x attack.

4U 140 Guild Quests legit had 300% health. And you grinded them for a low chance at a mediocre relic weapon. Afflicteds are better than tempered and hypers, but that isn't saying much, they're all not that great.
EX Deviants also had insane HP (for pre-World standards) and damage modifiers, Snowbaron had like 17x attack.
Not just 4U but 3U and 2U (Freedom Unite) all had you have to do all guild quests against Mp scaled monsters to unlock the best stuff. Freedom had the fatalis trio and tri had abyss lagi

While I dont find them "unfun" i dont find them fun either but I will give them at least some credit, its been long enough I dont remember anything pre-world offhand besides some minor cringe memories so I have nothing to say on that right now. Worlds tempered were just "crank the numbers" with nothing else really there, and lets not mention the difficulty spike going from Shara Ishvalda to a dam Kulu or Jagras in the guiding lands due to a further "crank the numbers" tacked on. At least afflicted have a little mini-game to play while your beating down the bullet sponge this time around, so slightly more engaging imo but still not fun either......yet....the future will tell.

I do not think Anomaly Quests or afflicted monsters are "unfun" in general. At first glance it feels "cheap" giving the monsters that kind of power up. But I have to say it is utmost interesting how the fights evolved that way. It is refreshing, it is fun, it keeps you want to play more.

As a matter of course I would prefer something different than that, specifically different monsters. But you can expect only so much from a title which is not concepted as a live service title where you pay a monthly subscription rather than once a lump sump. And even despite the fact, Monster Hunter Rise has seen exceptional good additions throughout its lifecycle so far which leaves little but praise for the developers and publisher to offer such an experience for a one-time-payment title these days.

I really do not know what you mean by "hunts (...) take longer". I cannot confirm that observation of yours at all, which kinda topples your base for your arguments to begin with.

You know what I actually do like afflicted, after fighting them for a while. They finally did the "hit a certain part" mechanic right. The qurio explosions actually doing a decent amount of damage is the main thing for me. Knocking them out of their afflicted state and watching the camera zoom out as they fall to the ground with that explosion is quite satisfying.

I'm still curious though if blast attacks and partbreaker help contribute or if it's just straight up damage.

If I were to rate them it would probably be: afflicted > frenzy > hyper > tempered. Frenzy might still be king but admittedly frenzy is not in recent history.

I was actually surprised that there is no revival to frenzy version of the monsters. Afflicted I consider still more fun, but I kinda expected frenzy with Gore Magala part of the game.

I don't think the concept is that bad, however they do have way too much HP and give way too little rewards for the effort. If one or both were rectified, I think they'd be great actually. But as it is I do agree that they suck.

Just ignore him, he keeps pretending to have played the games while he gets shut down every single time. Not as bad as OP though.
