Rampage Skills getting removed

So I didn't mess much with Rampage skills before Sunbreak, but after learning they stick with the weapon through upgrades (or at least everything online is still confirming that) I went back and restarted a weapon tree to get the best Rampage skill I could.
However the very next upgrade I try on that weapon gives me the warning that Rampage upgrades will be removed.

The later weapons in the tree don't have the skills and the whole point of them from what I can see is an early investment to buff yourself later, so am I doing this wrong or what gives?

Rampage skills do not exist in Sunbreak / Master Rank, if you are upgrading weapons from high rank to master rank they will go away. The upgrades only persist until high rank, you were probably reading older articles from before Sunbreak released. In Sunbreak they are replaced with rampage decorations.

HOWEVER, once you get to the endgame grind of Sunbreak, you will unlock Rampage decorations that some weapons can slot which provide the same/similar skills to Rampage Skills from HR
