How do I use silk attacks?

I was using the longsword and when I activate the silk attack in front of a monster it shows the multiple threads in the air nothing happened. I tried pressing the B and Y attack buttons (steam controller) to try and trigger an attack but nothing happened. Can someone explain what I'm doing wrong?

It's one that does lots of DPS, but needs the monster to attack you

The one Attack needs to connect with the monster during the jump and the other is a move that wants to catch a monster attack to perform a counter attack

You have to have meter, and available silk bugs.

you press r2, + Triangle, if the kick lands and u press nothing else it does a sword dive straight down (i think this fills meter), if u press the attack button (During a successful kick with meter) it does the helm breaker (consumes meter).
