I also think it would be a nightmare to balance. Monsters with high elemental zone values (tigrex comes to mind), would be completely destroyed by a simple "magic weapon" choice, so in turn would have to have their elemental zones reduced and punishing those that choose to use just regular elemental weapons.
Like I say though, I wouldn't be against it, however it would have to be very carefully implemented.
magic missle is a light bow gun, and fireball is just wymfire blast or w/e its called.
not really opposed but i cant see what niche it'd fill that isn't already covered by ranged
Wait..
the closest thing to magic in the series are the somewhat supernatural nature of elder dragons in which they can do outragerous things such as changing the weather, which is kind of handwaved away with being some sort of powerful energy.
By this logic, literally every weapon is the same as every other weapon.
LS is the same as CB, just one parries while the other blocks.
SnS is the same as insect glaive, one just can block while the other is more aerial and collects things
Dual Blades are the same as Bow. Just one has to play closer to the monster than the other.
I know some of the lines are very distant, but you get my point. Every weapon is designed to do the same thing. Stop the monster from moving.
And believe me, I'm not arguing for or against the magic weapons, I just think the argument you presented is rather weak. It can also be defeated with a simple "why add even more weapons that do the exact same thing?"
