Do you actually see other players?
Yeah, yeah - weird sounding question. But actually it has a fun reasoning. It just crossed my mind: aside from when someone records and share their gameplay, I actually hardly know anyone elses gameplay.

As in: when you play in multiplayer - do you actually notice all the cool stuff the other players do? With their movesets and so on etc. etc. pp.? Or are you more like me and you are into some sort of "tunnel" where you do not notice the others aside of the occassional "something moving there - hopefully they do damage" and otherwise only when they disturb and interrupt your combo? (the good ones heal you despite you do not need healing, and the very good ones get Rathalos down with a flash)

Or maybe it is my game which is weird and it is not actually showing anything when it is not focused with target camera?

How about you? Do you actually see other players cool stuff they doing when you hunt alongside them?

Only really when playing with friends but with randoms most of the time I'm "in the zone" like you

unfortunately combat is visually a big mess , all the SFX of combos, palico, palamutes on top of monsters own attacks. ye. cant see anything. just dishing out my own combos from my memory and trying to dodge as best as i can.

thats why i wanted collision turned on for monsters first of first. im losing my character under or inside the monsters. camera goes haywire. i see some melee players near me time to time but here and there. i never see ranged people at all since they re far behind me.

this brings me next problem that we lack FoV adjustment. really.

I notice when they combat carve :evilhero: I take note of their weapon and if they're using a Palico or a Palamute, and I keep my eyes on their name and healthbar for the telltale signs of a stun or whatever, but otherwise I don't pay attention to other players at all. I don't even bother reading their name most of the time. With Flinch Free preventing hitting players out of Sleepwalking state I usually don't even try to hit people out of that either lol.

If they're a mutual like I might have a little peek at their gear and pay a bit more attention than usual to their combat prowess but usually I'm too busy fighting to do that myself anyway.

I do notice when they use flash pods and sonic pods though. Couldn't tell you who placed the healing snail or whatever in a fight though, I never notice anything like that. I miss those healing / cleansing / affinity boosters and their auto shout outs from World :steamsad:

I feel like the small almost "private" lobbies and the general awkwardness of accessing the gestures and poses menu my desire to communicate or even acknowledge other players existence has greatly diminished in World. They may as well be AI teammates most of the time - I'll pop Dust of Life and so on to keep them alive, but otherwise...meh.

This, too. Even on "Low" effects, the visual noise is extreme in this game. Like when fighting Goss Harag, each time someone hits his ice weapons they explode into ice fragments, and if lots of people are hitting them at once he turns into a giant ice explosion, you can't see anything at all.

Just a small side note: you and everyone else knows, that you can set auto shoutout for that kind of thing, yes? Setting Hunting Helpers -> Autoshout.

Yeah I've seen those, there's a couple for things like a Gust Crab and stuff, if I recall. I've never seen anyone using that particular auto shoutout though, because for some reason you can only enable like 8 at once or something.

Honestly, I consider myself blessed if I run into someone who has actually customised their shout outs lol.

Side note; I'm glad you have options in this game to change the colour of various messages so it's easy to discern auto shoutouts from private messages and in game chatter. If only the chat UI wasn't so restrictive and stuff to go with it :steamsad:

Well... we got what we got from a console without keyboard port. But yeah, just wanted to mention that since it boggles my mind how people overlook that when they go for multiplayer.

That reminds me of two things:

a) I have never found an actual use for Gust Crabs

b) I have seen some very hilarious auto shouts while playing. I did not know anyone can make so many questionable autoshouts about wyvern riding and healing that it needed probably an NSFW warning... :lunar2019crylaughingpig:

Nope. Rise has serious issues with visibility, every move spams lights/effects into the screen making it near impossible to focus on anything than your own character. It's probably gonna get worse for SB...

I used them to troll my friends in the middle of a fight once or twice, but that's about it. I guess they're probably used for hitting flying enemies like Bazelgeuse in the face and knocking them out of the air, or possibly for emergency dodging - wonder if you can use one to survive a Valstrax ambush attack?

Also I guess they'd be useful for getting around the map if you knew where to put them, too. Never used them for that purpose but presumably they're very good for it. Like the outcrop in the Flooded Swamp that requires you to do some jumping across the waterfall, I think? You could probably bypass that with a Gust Crab. No clue lol.

Whoosh!

I see other players when they:
- fight a monster in a tight corridor and won't come out.
- hang at a camp a bit too long
- don't use sub-camps
- cart a lot
- carve during a fight (not between area moves)
- Try to capture before the mob is even blue (funny mostly)

I guess what I am saying is, if i don't see you, you are probably doing a good job.

I use a hunting horn with healing songs a lot so I tend to focus more on players. Sometimes I just swing at the air to heal people without looking at the monster at all.

Other than that, I do like to watch other players when I'm not too busy with the monster's attacks. It's very amusing to watch people do things that are either cool or silly.

I've seen them used to dodge Rakna's flame wall attack, since that monster is usually found in lava caverns. There is also a ledge in the volcano that can only be accessed with a gust crab

however, both of those examples could be done with wirebugs instead, not really a great item regardless

There was a time I was fighting allmother on Switch and someone was doing a helmbreaker, in which I utilized to activate my shoryugeki

I don't pay attention to what other players are doing, mainly because I don't really care. I show up to the hunt, hit the monster with the big sword until it stops moving, then move on to the next hunt. Also, I don't bring life powder. Time spent healing someone else is time spent not hitting the monster :-P

I will add one caveat to this. When I'm playing with friends, I do pay attention to them. I'll knock them out of stun/sleep/para and try to help when I can. Still don't bring life powder tho. If I wanted to play a healer, I'd play SNS, LBG or HH.

As a Gunlance main, thanks to my shield, I usually have a much larger window of opportunity to look what my other fellow hunters are doing. I'm the dude who saves your ass from cart(s) with a bunch of throw-able CC items and top up your soon-to-die HP after you've carelessly allowed the monster to chip away your HP for a later one hit kill.
