is rampage supposed to be a nightmare on solo?
I can barely get through these rampage quests without monsters constantly hitting the non automated turrets that I set up. I don't know if i'm doing something wrong or something or the AI is extremely aggressive towards non-npc in the mode.

Hm? I consider rampage relaxing. It is a given win. You cannot lose. Or... can you?`

I have made a Rampage Solo tips section over here:

I wonder what you are doing that you have such a hard time. Care to elaborate?

i tought the same initally. but its actually rather easy once you get what youre supposed to do. especially the wyvern fire cannons can be super confuseing and are poorly explained by the game but they are fantasic if setup correctly.

only thing i dont like when solo is that sometimes you try to use a cannon and get attacked by like 2 monsters at the same time. that just feels wrong. as the system wasnt designed for that.

♥♥♥♥ ibushi rampages tough. holy crap.
i do love rampages they give the rare mats you can get plates or gems on completion.
it has the same drop rate as capture but they are much easy to get then req hunts.

Do Rampage with other people. I have never failed a single rampage, like not even close.

You can cart as many times as you want but if you're over 3 carts you just lose out on one award. Generally though people don't cart until the final monster show up and even then it might depend on who it is.
People are chill in rampage too and know what to do. It'll much less of a stress when playing with others.

So far I've never seen anyone getting angry over carts. Because it's still like S rank at the end on most of them.

It's a breeze with other people.
Apex Zinogre and Apex Diablos are way more annoying and actually carts people.

It is very easy so here are some tips.

Just summon automated balista at the start and save a spot for iori on the floor.

Summon iori and buddies right when the monsters get there and if monsters get through either hit the gong in the back for the counter signal to finish everything off with your weapon or set up a balista and try to beat them until the first boss comes which automatically uses a counter signal.

During the 2nd wave if you have auto cannons just set them up in the next spots and get ready to use hinoa and minoto on the same spot you used iori and do the same thing, if you didn't use the gong for counter signal before than this is your chance. The most important weapon you can use is a "wyvernfire artilery", once you have this unlocked just put 2 at the last gate and aim them slightly at the gate so that they can hit anything that touches it. I prefer the fireball mode, idk the dps comparison between the beam and the fireball but I have had 0 problems in fireball mode.

Also don't forget to setup your last bomb on an open ground installment. And than that should be all you need to do until the last rampage boss comes out so you can just put up an installment and hit stuff if you want. But when the last boss comes just go back to the base and make sure to go to the 2nd entrance which is the right of the first arena entrance cause that is where the new arena is.

Once you get in there just immediately set up the "wyvernfire artillery" at the gate and aim it at a spot where you will be fighting the monster for extra damage. You can use your summons like fugen here when the boss monster summons extra monsters and just run around until the counter signal comes up to fight again.

so basically the last fight is up to you to kill the boss, but hey... all of the bosses are waaaaay easier to beat in this mode than in a normal hunt.

I know this is a lot ot read but rampage mode is very easy solo, and is the only mode I'd play online cause it isn't likely to get failed but after having a bad experience with a troll I just went back to doing it solo to farm tickets.

I'd recommend doing them with other people. With monsters I like to solo them most of the time, at least until I know the fights well enough and so if I join a group I know that I won't be a burden. Rampages are just whack-a-mole nonsense that you can't fail (at least you can't if you vaguely understand what to do). You'll never be a burden to others as you can't fail it.

Biggest tip is: hit the counter gong ASAP when you fight the final monster. It is a huge DPS boost, and there's really no point in using ballistae/cannons/etc for the first few minutes of the fight, you're just elongating the mission.

Does the counter gong increase the damage of the Summons or just the hunter's?

Best tip I can give to make rampage easier is to avoid basarios and bishaten
Jargous Jan 28, 2022 @ 12:51pm
Rampage is only tough for monsters that continually attack the gate. There are also cues for when you should focus on a certain objective. For example, when Ibushi gets a bunch of rocks together, destroying them greatly reduces the damage done to the gate. In the case of Apex monsters, they are continually charging, eventually following up with a very long orchestrated attack. Knocking them out of such state will completely cancel the damage to the gate.

No matter what, your gate will take damage, it is a given. Only Ibushi is problematic because it focuses on the gate. The others just stay far from the gate and you will easily complete the rampage.

Failed initial attempt 1 and maybe 2. Steamrolled every rampage after. Just need to get used to them. And yes solo is a pain because you don't do enough solo dmg or CC and get overrun fairly easily.

It's doable if you know what you're doing and have a good installation setup making the most out of your auto-turrets. Knowing what each of them do also helps. Here's some general tips that aren't really explained well.

  • The explosive shots from the Ballista can knock down monsters if you target the head. Retreat shot immediately grounds flying enemies.
  • Special assists show up each wave that disappear after the wave ends so there's no reason not to field them. Iori shows up immediately on wave 1 and Hinoa/Minoto show up on Wave 2. If you put down Fugen at the second stronghold before Wave 3 starts you can field him again immediately after he attacks since Wave 3 gives you another Fugen.
  • You can easily go between strongholds by going back to base camp and then going to the other entrance. Way faster than going the long way and allows you more time to set up the second stronghold to your liking in between Wave 2 and 3 (something you should really do on solo, but not really necessary on multi)
  • Just a reminder, don't forget you have Dragonators and the Counter Gong and that using the Counter Gong puts up another installation you can use on its spot. If something gets through Counter Gong is there and Dragonators are placed conveniently at spots where monsters will congregate.

Really though at the end of the day just do this with others. Join request for 8* rampages almost always fill up quickly and by now people generally know what they're doing. More people means fulfilling the stronghold level requirements a lot more easily too, something you'll struggle to do solo since it doesn't scale the requirements per player.

I struggled a lot with the Rampages too, but then I watched Rurikhan's Rampage Guide video for some pointers:

I managed to figure out what I was doing wrong and I haven't failed a single Rampage since then.

The last part of the video made me wonder if they actually knew what they are talking about...
