I can just wonder if we have the same quest in mind. 4 out of 17? How? You probably mean some super hard event quest and not the follow up boss&boss fight with the turf war around 3/4 of the battle... I mean: just how?

Example set:

Grab Berry Safe = Insurance whenever possible
Aurorturtle = this guy: https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/1818892558821921011/D1D615F9C18E4C678D19662B6322E631D885B09C/
In the normal quest there were two? Lanternbugs and them for survivalbility.
Wise to say you need to learn a monsters move somewhat. Not sure about the melee vs. range implication. A good ranger knows what they can and they cannot.
If the Valstrax users do not complain about it, that is.
This guide is good for that

Ah yes. Like back then in school. Rule no. 1: read. Rule no. 2: read. Rule no. 3: read rule no. 1 and 2.
Rule no 4: read hunter notes?
Hm... yeah. Cannot argue with that. I tend to "Guard Up". But the telegraph is so slow... you know what: my tip would be: if you are new to that, make sure to keep always one wirebug in reserve. You usually faint when you are stunned, or used up wirebugs and become unable to dodge.
I try to recall which event quest you mean here...
I also don't think the fight is particularly hard its just slow and frustrating which leads people to make stupid decisions.
And its made all the worst by one of its ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ drops being required for a lot of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥....
I give up. I cannot recall such a quest ~
11, sorry for the wrong number. I was just boring and want to farm some Narwa materials for talisman/Charm (also help other players). And really just this Narwa quest XD.
"百竜ノ淵源", this quest
Yeah no. They give you the full petallace buffs for this fight, so 200+ HP, and as long as you *fully* upgraded your armor set and have the armor charm and armor talon in your inventory, then you should not be "literally one shot".
What happens here, is you got lazy, dumb, bottom of the barrel type players going in and getting OHKO'd because they're either too lazy or too stupid to upgrade their armor sets.
The allmother fight is HR 50 progression, so people really got no excuse whatsoever for not having their armor fully upgraded by this point.
solo it has a massive health dip when playing with 3 people its nearly 53 thousand and if they are all melee weapons there is massive down time. What speed runners do is not I repeat not the norm and should not be taken as such. This monster has G rank lvls of health which isn't a problem if it didn't have such bad mechanics and tons of down time.
Even on discord, the teams farming allmother basically tell everyone bring a ranged weapon or leave. 4 ranged players working together can bring it down quicker than each individual can solo it, but if we gotta carry melee dead weight then that won't be the case. Given that MH Rise has 3 player multiplayer scaling, unlike World, where having 3 people made the fight scale up for 4 players, there's absolutely no reason at all to bring any dead weight on a team that's "farming" when people don't want to bring proper builds.
Don't blame the ranged players, blame capcom for making these fights so incredibly weighted in favor of ranged weapons. There's always drama any time peeps make an allmother farming session, because melee plebs show up and don't want to get with the program, if it says "farming" and not "chill hunts, relax and do whatever" then people are expecting you to play seriously.
Even with a lesser number I still feel sorry for what you have experienced. It seems ridiculous to me. If it is actually the same quest we have in mind, I remember still my first time doing it. It was like every boss fight before: just long. Not difficult. Rather boring to be plain.
I feel more pressured when being put in arena with event Rajang, Zinogre and Tigrex together. But that boss fight with Narwa ~ it is just long...
To faint one must really not know how to use Nullberries when being afflicted by Thunderblight, or something like that...
Is there actually any monster ingame which can insta-kill? That is assuming you properly upgraded your armour related to HR tresholds.
Please don't misunderstand my point XD. I do respect range weapons like other weapons. I carried a lot of hunts with my beloved sticky bomb HBG set. But like I said, I just do not recommend range weapon for those who are not familiar with her moves (personally) since the range defense is lower than other weapons (and like you said, some lazy players who do not upgrade their armors and weapons). If players are skilled with range weapon or know her moves, range weapon is actually a really really good choice. All weapons need time to practice to perform better.
