"Reach HR 20"
I just defeated the thunder serpent, completed all village quests, my main Hub quest is now "reach HR20" but i can also start sunbreak.

Is it worth grinding till 20 and build usefull decorations or can i complete that while playing sunbreak?

How do you feel now ?
Strong enough to try Master ranks (armors, skills, decorations...) ?
Or not confident (not enough skill, don't master your weapon, die easily against HR6-7 monsters, not enough def/att....) ?

If strong enough, go try it. You will see if it's manageable. If you die and find it hard, go back to HR ranks until you feel better.
If not, keep playing and doing quests (and reach higher HR ranks).

You can go through Sunbreak and boost your HR at the same time, MR quests give both MR and HR. HR is still going to be important to do as you progress as you'll want to get some items and decos from there for good sets down the line.

At HR8 you beat the base game's main story, the unlocks you get at different ranks are basicly post-game extras. You can start Sunbreak now if you want since you'll also keep on leveling up your HR and you'll be able to go back to the quests you unlock, but be prepared since MR (Sunbreak's new rank) is a step up in monster stats, behaviour and general difficulty.

So far i actually kinda liked how chill the game was until now. Guess i gotta make up my mind if i want the challenge or not.

I do not remember MR in worlds that fondly. Oneshots n stuff like that isnt really my cup of tea anymore but i guess if sunbreak isnt playable on anything other than MR it is what it is lol

You really shouldn't be getting oneshot by anything in MR if you have decent armor unless its one of the deeper quests, in my and many others' opinions MR is more challenging and therefore more rewarding than base game.
Not to be rude or anything but maybe your skill in this game isnt high enough to start MR rather than the monster's being unfair and one-shotting you.

When there was no Sunbreak, I saw a lot of hunters mainly with a light bowgun got one shot faint by Apex Mizutsune. Good old days.

FWIW while the game *is* more challenging it doesn't really get close to anything I'd call ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ until the much later monsters, besides MR like HR starts with some of the weaker monsters that will let you build up better armor to handle the higher damage more easily.

Also the new switch skills Sunbreak adds gives all weapons in the game a ton more options and stuff to play around with, so if anything I'd recommend checking out Sunbreak just for the new stuff you can do.

Dont forget the days of Apex Emergencies, fights designed for the crowd saying Rise was so easy. Which, even in Sunbreak, are extremely hard hitters.

Several days later, so probably too late, but I'd say it's defo worth it to grind up to HR 100 and fight the secret final boss. Plus it lets you grind up materials and such that you'd need to grind anyways, like materials for decorations, layered armor tickets, mats for lower tier weapons to later upgrade to better ones, ect
