Starting from high rank any quest that wasn't an Elder Dragon hunt was so easy in multiplayer that it just wasn't fun. Especially considering that if you have a drop-in MP enabled you'll have 3 or 4 people in 15 minutes or less, with everybody rushing and stomping the monster that can barely fight back.
Expansion pack and post-Master rank is were you have to play at your best and might benefit from competent assistance, but then you'll have access to a very competent and versatile team of bots that don't cart, don't scale the quest difficulty with their presence and let you go at your own pace instead of speedrunning the hunt, so multiplayer is still not the most attractive option for a lot of people.
Long story short, you might get a chance to play MP occasionally, but don't expect to beat the majority of quests in multiplayer, unless you find people to play with by other means, outside the game
As it ever was in this series, solo hunters are a silent majority with multiplayer being an occasional fun attraction.
Just a kindly remind that jesters were the only ones allowed to tell the truth to the king.
If you don't have World/Iceborne, I 100% recommend that that one for sure.
....where's the punchline?
MonHun games are best played solo or with friends, not with randoms. I would not recommend this for multiplayer based on that alone. Once you get to higher tier hunts, you'll probably still be able to find people to play with after Wilds hits, because not everyone buys the new MonHun game day 1. (Smart, patient ones wait for the inevitable expansion to drop. Sadly I'm not that smart or patient.)
You'll easily have enough time to play through village quests/beat the title monster and enough stuff to do either solo or MP after that point to tide you over until Wilds.
Yeah, honestly having my buddy tell me that when we first started playing, that um...well, help set realistic expectations for the game to be sure. Which it honestly blew past, so yeah...just don't go in expecting World 1.5 or something lol
As long as it has DRM, I don't care if they give it away for free.
For everything else, there's the NSW version.
