Wake me up when they show SA, Lance, or even LS.
SA and Lance were my mains, but LS is honestly going to be the biggest gauge of the game, considering...
- Movement options during combos
- A brand new mechanic that looks very fun to use
- It FEELS heavy and powerful in the video, especially the sound design is excellent. I hope it remains that way in the final game.
It definitely looks great, it's like they took the best part of both Rise and World versions and smashed them together. It'll probably be my main weapon for Wilds, just like I mained Gunlance in Rise because of how much more fun they made it in that game (despite it having pretty weak damage). I have played through a MH game with every single weapon except for HH and it looks like this will be a perfect occasion to put a cap on that milestone.
Of course it is, why would it not be like that? The changes Rise introduced were all predicated on the concept of wirebug moves. Would be weird if it worked the same way in Wilds. Plus they experimented with a lot of things in Rise and kept the features that people and them liked the most. For example the new mount is basically a palamute. They are also keeping some of the moves, like the attack we saw with HH, the one where you put a spike into a monster and then hit them with a sick solo.
The only weapon (if I am not forgetting anything) that was in question was the Hunting Horn, since it received a whole overhaul in Rise, not just some new moves and wirebug stuff. But now we know they decided to go back to the classic moveset and build on top of it. The rest of the weapons will all work just like they did in World with stuff added on top, just like with every transition between generations before this one. Unless they have any other crazy remakes in store, but I can't think of any weapon that would need one.
It's still not clear if you can bring 2 weapons of the same type, as in two melee or two ranged, or if it's always one melee and one ranged since that's what they've shown so far in all the gameplay related videos. On the other hand we've seen in other marketing materials hunters with 2 melee weapons on them. It's probably going to be any 2 weapons because I don't see a point restricting it if they are already allowing it, but who knows.
I also wonder what they are going to do about weapon related buffs when you switch the weapon. Some of them are almost certainly not going to transfer over, for example I doubt they will let you keep your kinsect stat buffs when you switch to a different weapon. But what about the general hunting horn buffs? Can you just do self improvement and everything else, then switch and enjoy all the buffs? What if you had maestro on the hunting horn and then you switched, do you get to keep the extended song timer?
There's a whole another layer to this and I actually REALLY want them to make it so all the buffs you give yourself with one weapon stay with you after you switch, because that would make for some really interesting strategies and synergies. Imagine having HH self improvement on an insect glaive with stacking movement speed, I doubt they will allow that but wouldn't that be really fun?
