What do you guys think about long sword?
Is it too powerful compared to other weapon in term of dps?
Is MH ever nerf weapon after expansion update in previous game?

I just want to know people's opinion. Thank you !

capcom has nerfed and buffed weapons with updates, charge blade SAED damage im pretty sure got nerfed during world's lifetime, along with losing all your phials if you got interrupted during discharge. that doesn't happen in rise now, for example

Glad to know they did some kind of balance back in previous game, i hope they can make other weapon a lot more interesting without breaking the game.

After using long sword for a while, most other melee weapons feel very weak to me. They just have a really hard time competing to deal the same amount of damage.

One of long sword's weaknesses is the fact that you don't have much defense at all if you aren't skilled at using counters. Weapons like Sword and Shield, Lance, Gunlance and Heavy Bowgun have shields, and shields in Rise are extremely strong even without any Guard or Constitution skill. Long sword has to actually know how monsters move and attack in order to work, which makes it hard to play if you're still learning.

Other weapons like Dual Blades have extremely good mobility that allow you to just run away from the monster when it attacks instead of trying to block or counter. You can even iframe through roars with Demon Flight.

yes they will nerf it. just like they nerfed it in world when iceborne came out and foresight slash got nerfed. this time the nerf will target ISS for sure. as that move is the reason its OP. that move is the SOLE reason for it. depending on the nerf this might make it useless in the end which in turn would remove the need for quick sheath 3 tough. we shall see as sunbreak is a good ways off still.

I don’t care how they touch the numbers as long as the feel of the weapon is intact. Making Foresight harder to trigger a counter with but keeping its iframes the same would be a harmless first step.

Yep LS is kinda superior to other melee weapons, ISS spam is really boring way to play tho.:sunekosuri:
I think there is no actual point to nerf LS, coz its kinda fun as its now.

Ls sits alone at S tier :MHRISE_Felyne::MHRISE_OK:. I've main CB for a long time but after trying Ls it's just not fun or rewarding anymore, the difference is colossal. Whatever the other weapons can do Ls does it better, safer, and faster.

I don't want it to get nerfed or reworked because it's stupidly fun and capcom has a record of butchering weapons with nerfs. What I would like to see capcom do is bring all the other weapons to Ls tier. I loved the block and strike playstyle that CB was known for, so this version of Ls feels amazing to me.

CB could definitely do with some alternative counters and better weighting; imagine if instead of GP only leading into morph or AED you could do MHGU Valor’s double ED2. It’s too skewed towards (S)AED at the moment too; regular axe hits are very underwhelming and only come up to “okay” with Spinning Slash equipped. Even if you’re spamming AED, you’ll get similar or better results than vanilla ED2 upswing loops.

I loved Valor CB; that felt like the right balance of heaviness and freedom to me. The sliding slash is good for repositioning but has barely any speed; Slide Morph has basically eclipsed it. Would not mind Valor steps coming back, even though it steps on the toes of what Lance shield advances can do, but it’s not like other weapons don’t mooch off each other as is.

If anything, it had a bit of a nerf in its move set from World. Foresight slash now has the hitbox travel with the player instead of dropping it at the point you used it at, making it frankly a bit garbage.

foresight absolutely needed to be reeled in and still does imo, it should never have been a “the monster looked at me so I get a free spirit level” move. ISS actually isn’t the problem even when spammed because it forces you to respect the monster and play by its rules at least for however long it takes to get into iai stance (which is very little with QS3) and also followup attacks since even successful counters have a significant ending animation you can only cancel into another sheathe or Spirit 3 / silkbinds. Val will slap you if you try to ISS at the start of an attack string, so will the harder apexes. It’ll show more of a need for control even with QS3 once we get into G rank again and monsters have more mixups and such; for example, even HR Zin doesn’t have his back slam -> breakdance right now.

Longsword is fine. If anything, the lower tier weapons need to be toned up, and maybe the ranged weapons down a little. We don't need any drastic changes. One of the only changes I think the game really needs is to make elemental stronger, because right now its pretty bad for most things.

Actually, I believe ISS, and QS3 to some extent, is the problem. Not because of numbers or anything though. It's the level up. For someone who has practiced it and can land most ISS, it's a free spirit level, and it's the quickest way to level (even without any spirit). This leads to more Spirit Helm Breakers which is where the real damage for LS comes from. It's the loop of ISS -> Helm Breaker, and the only thing slowing it down in Rise is Wirebugs. Combo attacks are really the only thing that can stop ISS, but those aren't all that common on monsters. If the ISS level up is kept I bet Capcom will end up gutting Helm Breaker damage. Rather than make Helm Breaker itself weaker, it'd be better if the opportunities to use it at full power didn't come around as often.

LS is a good weapon if you are a solo player. It is not over powered in 4 player matches. Despite what you yolo LS users think, I have a DPS counter, LS users in full groups generally are in last place. But In solo? Or even Duos, the damage output is insane.

Why should they nerf it? The weapon is 4th place out of the 13 weapons. If anything, some of the other weapons need to be buffed. I think CB and Gunlance need buffs for sure, GL is in a really sad state, and CB doesn't do nearly enough damage for its commitment.
