Phials for melee weapons?
My switch axe lists a power phial under the phial section of the weapons notes at the smithy. What is a phial and how do i use it?

i may get this kind of wrong but the phials
is what damage it will do example power might be melee when you do the power move for the switch axe. do not know the short name of it. but example if you have a fire phials it will do fire on the final big move.or attacks

think of the SAED for the charge blade after you pop the final attack it will do the phials
Almost right
Phials also activate their kind of DMG when you filled your gauge, basically when your gauge is full and you hit with axe or sword it will make an "explosion" after your normal hit, with the "explosion" dealing phial DMG
Power phial just do normal DMG
Elemental phials will do elemental DMG according to the element thats on the weapon
And exhaust phials will exhaust the monster

No, you need to fill your gauge
For a detailed explanation of switch axe mechanics I advise to watch this video

Empty phials are for crafting bow coatings. Swaxe and CB also use “phials” but they’re a weapon mechanic rather than craftable ammunition.

A good thing to note is that Exhaust phials can actually stun monsters, much like most exhaust attacks such as Exhaust ammo and coatings. Plus, blue explosions are really cool.
