1 Star Monsters 30+ minute TTK
Heii everyone!
Me and a friend have been hunting together since we started the other day. We both are still in basic armor and now bone weapons. Dual Blades and Heavy Bowngun and the early Hub monsters take us around 30 minutes. Is this normal? Was our approach incorrect? or is it meant to be this grindy?

Most monsters shouldn't take that long from my experience. You are probably a bit undergeared.

Are you both using kunai only? Because with adequate gear it should not take longer then 15-20 min for non pro players.

what is kunai?
Azu Feb 11, 2022 @ 10:46am
there's a usable item that allows you to throw kunai that deal 2-9 damage.

At any rate, yeah, like that guy above me said it should only take 15-20 mins for a casual player unless you went exploring or such. This is assuming you were hitting the monster as much as you could.

Did you go straight into the hub quests?
Said Feb 11, 2022 @ 10:57am
Yes straight into hub since we wanted to play together. The weapons are made of bone. My dual blades are said to do 90 damage and trigger damage numbers ranigng from 1 to 8. 8 ofc much rarer than lower numbers. The armor is still the one you spawn with at the start

It's pretty much non-stop damaging unless ofc they're moving around or switching area

That explains it. Starter gear is pretty ass and hub monsters have a lot of health. Once you and your homie kill a few monsters and get off that gear the time to kill will drop significantly.

Hub monsters are indeed harder than Village monsters. However to be fair, hub monster is the 'normal' difficulty of MH game, meanwhile Village monsters are actually tuned down for people to get into the game.

Usually if you are an experienced player, hunting any monster with decent progress gears wiil only take 5-10 minutes. For average players, 15-20 minutes is still considered to be pretty alright. Taking up to 30 minutes for a monster means you're either under-geared or unskillful, which is fine for an action game like MH. You should take some time checking the smiths for better weapons. Also if you read the hunter's note (in esc menu) about your weapon controls, you might learn some useful information that can speed up the hunt.

About the grindy-ness, the game is grindy but not in terms of hunt time. Usually an average player with decent end-game armor fighting an end game boss will take about 10 minutes.

DB/HBG have some of the hardest starts of any weapon, especially if you're not acclimated to their silkbinds which comprise a big portion of their damage output. It's pretty normal unfortunately, but once you start getting access to element or decent bowgun ammo things will speed up

Now that you mentioned it i have not yet used a single silkbind since i had to remap the non-existent mouse buttons for ammo changing and silk using to U and J

dual blade silkbind attacks are important early because of the lack of damage you have. later they get less useful because i dont think the damage gets better and you rarely have a chance to sit and attack. the dodge counter is good tho

i suggest you and your friend play village first to learn the game, avarage new player timer are around 20 min, 30 min is too long

village took around 3-10 hours to finish

Get better gear. For basic bone/ore gear, you don't need to really fight any monsters at all to upgrade them, so gather from bonepiles and mining outcrops a little and you should be good to go.

So do they scale separately?
Both are 1* atm if my village goes up to 2*. Does it affect the hub?
