Is Rise not MH6?
Seeing as how Rise is a mainline title, is it not MH6? Do people only consider the console Monster Hunters to be the "real" mainline titles and regard them as (MH5,6,etc) such?

Genuinely wondering.

They directly said it was a mainline title though, in a Monster Hunter direct, which is why i'm so confused. Capcom themself said it's a mainline, but the community is calling it a spin-off.
Its a mainline title, but it isnt a spin-off. Its part of the Portable series, which isnt a spin-off. Stories is a spin-off. Its the newest mainline title in the Portable series

I've been looking it up and everything is saying Rise is a mainline title, apparently even the game devs themselves said this.

I'd reason yes, considering it was a home-console release generation. (Yes Switch is by technicality a home console, or at least a half-home console, being what I'd assume is Nintendo's current flagship).

It is mainline

Aren't well all. We have both Monster Hunter Worlds and Generations that may or may not be considered the "Main line" of Monster Hunter games.

Really the numbered Monster Hunter games stopped at 4 Ultimate if I recall.

It’s part of the 5th generation of MH just like World/Iceborne. So no, not MH6.

"Monster Hunter Rise is an action role-playing game developed and published by Capcom for the Nintendo Switch. It is the sixth mainline installment in the Monster Hunter series and was released worldwide in March 2021."
Just one of many things

Yeah, in all reality the numbered scheme is fairly worthless past 4U

Wrong. It's a mainline title. Just like how mhxx is also a mainline title for 5th generation along world. If anything world fits a lot of criteria to be considered a spin-off.

You are correct. They did away with numbered titles. But people still like to refer to them as such, like World being MH5.

Thing is Generations (and Generations Ultimate) was between 4U and Worlds. I've seen people call it a "spin off" though I not entirely sure if that would be correct because it uses a lot of the architecture of 4U. Also though I did like Generations Ultimate, it didn't quite find it the "Ultimate collaboration of all Monster Hunters" considering it left out a lot of them.

I'd say the aspect that might make it a spinoff was it was initially released on a side-console, being the 3DS. Though it becomes weird on how to classify Generations Ultimate, considering it was on a main console.

Well for me is has to have connections with older titles / beeing cannon to be mh6
Mh world had aiden and a some motions to older titles and can be considered cannon / mh 5
Rise doenst have anything cannon to the main title for now ( maybe for sunbreak ? )
