The drawbacks, for me, is probably the equivalent of Iceborne's Guiding Lands, that being the Anomaly Investigations. It's a bit easier to do than GL, since you can select which monsters to hunt at any time rather than baiting and waiting etc., however material gathering is really, really slow; and you need a LOT of these materials to augment your gear. This is further amplified by a bazillion times if you intend to fully exploit the Elemental Damage meta (elemental damage is OP here, unlike World), which means you need to augment all 5 weapons for each element, and gather 5x the materials for each weapon you use. Not to mention, these Anomaly Investigation monsters get their HP pumped a ton, some literally almost doubling Fatalis' HP. Granted, the dps ceiling in this game is far higher here than World, but if you don't have a good dps build, you'll find yourself fighting for a while.
All in all, a pretty big different experience from Iceborne. I'd ask what do you wish to see in an expansion, and judge it based on that. The review bombings are from the DRM spectacle, which is practically a non-issue that only triggers a bunch of nerds who ran out of things to rage about.
not to mention the cheap gfx of rise lol, mobile level game.
