What’s the best and worst weapon class?
Hi, what do you think is the best class and the worst?
What weapons you use usually?

I play with Charge Blade, Morphblade, Longsword, Greatsword, Dualblades

I think they're all pretty good, but I like some more than others. I originally played a lot of Lance, played a bunch of Greatsword and Heavy Bowgun, settled on Gunlance for now. I like big moves and being able to tank damage, so those all work well for me.

I dont think any weapon is best and worst
But some are a bit more boring imo

For me range weapons are meh, rest are fun though

I play all the weapons

All weapons are equally viable.

I mainly use the Hunting Horn, and when in the mood I swap to Long Sword, Great Sword, Lance, Charge Blade, Bow.

I main Insect Glaive as its aerial moves allow you to dodge annoying attacks.
In the very endgame where you can boost elemental damage too much, weapons with higher hit counts such as Dual Blade and Bow can outperform other weapons. However that does not mean other weapons are useless. You can still beat endgame monsters in around 5~10min with these.

Any weapon class is capable of beating every monster in the game in a reasonable amount of time, even in Solo. The primary difference between them is preference, literally which one you like the movesets and looks of. For instance, I primarily play Longsword because I'm a weeb, I like how the attacks neatly flow into one another, and I like being able to dodge-counter explosions. I dislike Hammer because it feels clunky in comparison, unable to dodge or move about as well.

Weapon feel matters more than whatever minute differences between the weapon classes min-maxers have evaluated. If a weapon's attack pattern doesn't feel right to you or doesn't come easily, you're probably not going to have much fun with the weapon and more than likely not get far enough into the game for those minute differences to matter.

Depends on the monster

Usually my best dps is with dual blades if the monster is somewhat grounded, but my favorite all round weapon is lance, you can hit pretty much every weak spot, have solid defense and stun/break horns n stuff with it.

Worst to me is bow, but thats probably on me, i suck with that, same with insect glaive

In terms of performance aka how fast you can slay a monster, it depends on your progression.
In early games melee are generally better than range. In end game range are almost definitely better than melee.

It also depends on whether you're playing Sunbreak. I would say bow in end game Sunbreak is one of the easier weapon to play yet can produce huge DPS. However it's still short compared to LBG but playing bow gives you much more engagement in the battle unlike LBG just makes you play the game like a gun and run.

Ever since MH4 it's felt like charge blade and long sword are the best.

Slime dual blades was OP in MH3U, but ever since then it seems like DB is underwhelming. It also seems like gunlance is okay at best in most MH games.

I like to think of MH games as the kind of game where it's important to bring the right tool for the right job, but seriously if you just stick with charge blade and long sword you will be fine for the rest of your life or however long you keep up with the series.

The best is lance, anything else is worst.

I think a good while back, someone made a chart that show-cased "player skill and weapon damage outputs," with bow, hbg, lbg at the top (for MHR:S)

That said, when I was introduced to Monster Hunter, (World) the bow which I initially found boring af with little to no mechanics, and used heavy/light bowguns. They were my thing, but I was just ok with the guns (and continue to be so) with my damage being barely above adequate. I liked daggers because of the speed and flexibility of the weapons but when Iceborne came along and I couldn't solo Shrieking Legiana with daggers, I (playing with my brother who was using bows and killed everything super easily with bows) swapped to bows and have not main'd anything else since.

I've tipped my toes in all other weapon types but bows continue to be one of the most dependable weapons in the current generation of Monster Hunter because you can break wings/backs more dependably (or with insect glaive, but you've gotta be a decent player).

Bows have continued to dominate in MHR (more-so than MHW) from my own personal experience. However, I'll always recommend players to try each weapon until they stick with whatever they find most fun/effective for their playstyle. Joining random SOS's with a dps meter, I almost always am the top DPS, with a bow.

I genuinely believe there isn't a "worst" weapon type in this game. I've seen amazing players with some weapons that I struggled to beat a Great Izuchi with; but if I had to put a weapon as "most sucky" I say Hammer. It is fun but I don't see many players that excel at using it (myself included).

TLDR: Bow - BEST; Hammer - WORST

The few times i'm not 1st on my dps meter is when i'm meeting a bow player, they can have twice my dps sometimes. Even if your build isn't that good you can obliterate monsters, it is ridiculous.

The best is Bow, and the worst is Bow. There is no in between.

As for the weapon I usually play...

The best ones are the ones I play, the worst ones are the ones I don't play.
Qua2ar May 18, 2023 @ 8:02am
Worst: Longsword -> too easy to use, too many counters, braindead.
Best: Hammer -> a simple weapon that takes alot of skill to play optimal becasue you only have 1 counter and no block. Also offers support for teammates in the form of ko.
HH is in a similar boat, it has no counter and it's one of the few weapon where positioning matters.

I am not talking about DPS, I am talking about skill.
Charge blade would be here, but the block kinda hurt's the skill ceiling.
Lance too would have been here, but they made the insta block too easy too use in sunbreak, in the base game it was actually hard to pull of in quick succesion.

i think hammer suffers from a fact there is not much places where you can jump from ledges fast . or slide spin atack . switch moves are kinda boring . in mhw hammer was great if you used R2 jump atacks .
