I don't know the exact numbers off the top of my head but I'm pretty sure Rise has more monsters. More importantly and of course in my own opinion it has far better variety in monsters too. One of the things that bothered me about World was how samey alot of the monsters felt.

The only downside is lack of Brute Wyverns besides Anjanath and Barroth. I am sad to not see Brachy but it was about time it took a break for a game. Especially Deviljho.

Monster Hunter World Iceborn

A total of 94 monsters are in the game; 23 Small monsters and 71 Large monsters.

Rise sunbreak has iirc more large monsters now with the title updates its at like 70 + so definetly more then 40 unless you completely neglected to count sunbreak which at tu 4 was 77 large monsters and tu5 added 2 more

I am pretty sure they completely ignored Sunbreak when counting.

Yah because sunbreak has something like 78 large and all the small monsters bring it to 111

So what is the total number of large monsters in World+Iceborne compared to Rise+Sunbreak ?

The only difference I can tell so far is that Rise+Sunbreak has more variety in type of large monster while World+Iceborne has mostly flying wyvern

Iceborne has 71 large while sunbreak is floating at like 78

Yah you just failed to grab the expansion data so you were comparing a low/high rank game to a fully updated master rank game

The Fextralife wiki? You mean the one that still doesnt have all of it's Iceborne info? Dont use that garbage, use the Monster Hunter Wikia or Kiranico.

To put into perspective how much more variety there's here? the higher kind of builds possible here are one thing that sets it apart from Iceborne, same with weapon trees all having equal upgrades, making them viable at endgame. Not the best, but viable, because there's a pretty big difference between a weapon 2 grades lower than the highest upgrade.

Another thing is that several species here have either more monsters compared to Iceborne like fanged beasts, or in other cases, there are 0 monsters in Iceborne equivalent to these ones, Amphibians, Carapaceons, Temnocerans, or Leviavathans and these aren't some throwaway monsters either, these are some of the high quality monsters, like Tetranadon, Rakna Kadaki, Goss Harag or Violet Mizutsune.

Lastly? Anomalies. For all their problems with the slow leveling, Anomalies lets you hunt up to 57 / 77 total monsters at the endgame and those mats come in handy for weapon upgrades and augmenting those weapons too, as well as armor.

Put it simply, Sunbreak's got a great deal of monster variety and a great endgame system to emphasize it..

There's some problems with it, like how now the last monsters give the highest rewards and lower monsters didn't get new materials to compete with them, that's not great for sure, but that's a small problem compared to Iceborne having 2 Elder Dragons that practically devoured all the weapon trees with their drops.
With that problem, if you're looking for Elemental / Status weapons in Iceborne? The best ones you would only get by farming Safi'Jiiva and Kulve Taroth.

I'm a new commer to MH series and I dont know the names of the monsters you mention but I agree about the monster species. I have played MH:W (base game only) and all monsters are like dinasours while in Rise/Sunbreak I see there are bug monster and the latest update there is anew monster like a chinese dragon which looks super cool

P/S: I can see you have hundred of hours in both MH:W and MH:R so which game you like more and will recommend ?

yeah, it's quite a bit of stuff and I tried to make it simpler there by using numbers to be more specific, but it's not easy to parse MH info even then, especially info pertaining to endgame.

I'd recommend MHRS for the gameplay, balance and endgame, where as MHWI I'd recommend for the visual fidelity and cinematic spectacle that the fights and areas offer, while also having a pretty great albeit slower paced gameplay.

They're both great games, so I would say that both are worth getting, I don't think there's any need to need to getting either over the other when you can play them in an order that you like.
