Anything I can do to speed up the auto save?
it's pretty frustrating that it kicks in after each interaction with an NPC, I'd much rather it saved on beginning and end of missions tbh but stuck with this. So is there anything I can to do speed it up? I imagine transfering the game to my SSD would actually be a bad idea since it saves so often.

You try turning it off?
Otherwise, idk either.
Just a question for confirmation

well I can go on some pretty long play sessions and idk when it'll save if at all other than on exit if it's turned off. So I'm worried I may lose hours of hunting with an unlucky power outage or something like that

the game is saved after every quest, so you just lose progress intown if you play with disabled autosave and something goes wrong before finishing the next mission.

Yeah, pretty much means if you are going to roll qurious/charms, best to save afterwards

I recently upgraded my CPU from an i7 4790k to a i9 13900k just a month ago. And since I already spent the majority of my playtime with that older CPU, I can tell that the save speed is more impacted by CPU more than your SSD/HDD speed. It cut the speed by 1/3, it's that impactful. Also, the save game is stored on where you installed steam
(more specifically, this address C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\insert_acc_id_here\1446780\remote\win64_save by default)

So you would need to move steam out of your SSD drive if you don't want it saving a whole 7,180kb of data every save.

PS: most SSD are designed to withstood petabytes of writes and reads. Writing 8mb of data per save will not wear out your SSD unless you are rocking a samsung 990 or 980 pro (which is another thing alltogether)

Turn off autosave, it's way too aggressive in town and will full save after every single conversation. It still asks to save and defaults to "yes" after every quest, so there's no issue.

If you look it up on youtube, the specific model is samsung 990/980 pro 2TB, they have faulty firmware that just obliterate the lifespan of the drive by about 10000 fold. Instead of degrading at most 2-3% per year, it degrades by around 10-20% per week. They gave out a firmware update to fix it, but a new problem exposed itself as some users cannot boot up their PC unless it is a cold boot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cU0KDQ_ePUE GamerNexus covered this a bit in the related section in the video.

I just turn it off and save after every expedition, it speeds up stuff.
I need to finally turn it off too, I've found this waiting in front of NPCs so frustrating (not that I understand why it has to be THIS bad here when World was fine). I've had these dumb "but what if I lose something" thoughts holdings me back even though I'm always reflexively saving manually every time before I even quit the game anyway, and it's just some in town progress anyway like people have said.

World's autosaving was just automatically choosing yes whenever the game would asks you to save normally. The only time this happen is after a hunt. Instead of getting a pop up asking you to save or not, it just did it. I don't know either why rise's autosave is so aggresive where world's implementation was the game's primary way of autosave since gen 3. If it ain't broke, don't fix it imo.

Rejoice, this mod reduces the frequency to only once every 5 minutes https://www.nexusmods.com/monsterhunterrise/mods/2095

Make sure to mention that the last time such a mod appears it was under strong suspicion to cause save game corruption and got pulled out because of that.

Ah I see. I didn't remember that that's how it worked. But yeah I really don't understand why it has to save EVERY single ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing. It's so frustrating when you want to talk to an NPC, but they give you a ticket or just say something and force you to wait in front of their face before you can talk to them again. Clearly not much thought went into that implementation. And you're right, World's system worked fine and didn't need changing.
