Layered weapons paid DLC is a really concerning precedent to me

I'm aware that monster hunter has had a history of dlc that let you customise your character further like hair, tatoos, voices, etc. But the addition of layered weapons to that list doesn't sit right with me. It just feels like every other monetisation scheme - lowly but surely push more and more and more and to infinity.

And sure, it's just skins atm, and only a set or two... but the last decade should be more than enough proof that MTX never stops at this. It rarely starts unreasonable, but it just keeps devolving until it's an atrocious aspect of an otherwise great product.

Imagine how much more fun it would be to unlock the incredible looking plushie skins from a chain of event quests or challanges... instead of the amazing gameplay of taking out my credit card...
I jsut really abhore the idea of Monster Hunter becoming one of those games that you pay 150$ to play and then there's a list of 7000$ worth of 900 different DLCs

I did have a what-if scenario pop up when I saw the reveal. Have an event quest with a smol version of Valstrax with that new BGM they revealed and let us farm the materials ourselves to make the layereds. You could still sell them as DLC if you wanted to for those that just want to buy them.

I agree. Nip it a the bud and don't let it fester. Remember the statement "Its just cosmetics" when it came to paid DLC? During those time, it was common for games to have ingame unlock for alt costumes and other cosmetics, seeing some as paid DLC didn't seem too unreasonable.

Now most games cosmetics are behind a paywall and there isn't any or barely ingame one you can unlock.

Also remember some company been trying to get away with these kind of DLC. The moment you accept them or think nothing of them is when they become a bigger problem and set a foothold.

Never sold them "Yet".

They never sold layered weapons before, normally the silly ones are from event missions. Like the meat hammer and Fish Dual Blades. Now look at the new line of silly weapon skins behind a paid dlc.

Well, hopefully the community wisens up and stops buying DLCs that promote such a thing.

But sadly, we'll always have reviewers on Youtube with some sort of title like "I bought this so you don't have to".

That's all well and good, but I just don't mind paying for extra cosmetics, and don't mind other players enjoying it either. People can feel free to worry about things that aren't happening if they want to spent mental energy on it. But Capcom isn't selling stuff that I don't want them to sell, so I'm not upset. That's pretty much all there is to it.

If you or others want to get upset about hypotheticals or the principle of the matter, then don't let me stop anyone. Just seems like a waste of energy to me.
