Last time I enjoyed Lance was PSP series, now the passion has returned.
it just lacks damages, even if you play and build super offensive and only use insta block, it just does ok. but why play lance if nearly every other melee weapon has better counters now and does much more damage?
you still can play super defensive, but then you take forever to finish a hunt, compared to any other weapon.
Skyward Thrust is both meme-tier and godly at the same time, I can hit less damage than a triple poke with it on some monsters and hit up to 2000 damage in one use of it on other monsters.
You can also just poke and have a good time, Enraged Guard offers a damage buff and you can swap scrolls to access Spiral Thrust or Skyward Thrust while having said 20% raw buff to hit big numbers. It can also stun monsters with ease with Shield Charge, and now has a sheathe silkbind move that has generous iframes and solves Lance's biggest weakness, its painful sheathing speed.
Surprisingly lance does very chonky numbers as well in sunbreak.
It might get a bit awkward in multiplayer to get counters but stabbing away always works.
I tend to use it for certain foes who are just hyper aggressive. Turn them to cake walks.
Mostly easy an Easy button to get past stuff thats slowing you down.

only gunlance is worse and thats for speedruns, where every counter is perfect. now take that into a multiplayer hunt.
i am (or was) a lance main. i want the weapon to be good, but there is something wrong if i kill monsters much faster on weapons where barely know the moveset.
and ignoring everything changes in a multiplayer hunt, greatsword falls off hard when it can't strongarm stance every other attack
