Why are people using Valstrax (dragon element) weapons against Valstrax?
I'm confused

---

So from the discussions so far:

1. Aiming for its high raw and long white sharpness, since Val is immune to elements during its enraged state.
2. They simply have no clue that Val's weak to all elements except Dragon.
3. Fashiun

'cause Valstrax is an Elder Dragon, and Elder Dragons are nearly always weak to dragon? it's logic that's almost entirely consistent, even for Dragons that use Dragon like Ibushi. Valstrax is an extremely rare exception.

also because elemental damage doesn't really matter to much anymore

So i guess it's just a general stigma to use dragon against Elder then? Because i'm just afraid that i'm missing something here e.g. he's weak to dragon when he glows red or something (tested this myself and he isn't)

I'm pretty sure it's just people assuming he'd be weak to dragon since nearly all Elder Dragons are, or just using strong weapons with no regard for elements since Raw is most of your damage anyway.

Pretty sure people are using it for its sharpness and raw on that fight. Considering Val has no elemental weakness when he is not in his normal state.

Or, they just don't know it yet. Just check kiranico.

I just use the weapon that looks the coolest, fight me

Because for whatever dumb reason raw is still king so ppl mostly ignore elements anyways, and as others said they probably assume since its an elder its weak to dragon and they are too lazy or simply dont care to check.

They have high raw and a lot of white sharpness so they are easy to manage, plus honestly using elemental damage on valstrax might not matter much as he becomes immune to elemental damage when enraged and he spends most of the fight enraged anyways, not everyone crafts high raw weapons as gearing towards elemental builds in sunbreak its actually good now.

Elemental Damage is literally meta for most weapons, if not all. (Technically high raw with high elemental).

Also, for OP, it's because a good chunk of players are stupid. They are literally given a book that tells them what to use, and they ignore it. Every element but dragon is powerful vs valstrax.

Hunter's notes isn't exactly accurate in this case.

This is definitely a raw matchup.
Valstrax weapons can actually be really good. Apparently for Lance it is the best weapon when factoring in sharpness and rampage slots.

So what does this mean, that it takes no elemental damage on either charged or non-charged? Which is it?

I mean I did notice that for some reason the monsters with charged states that changed hitzones didn't seem to properly show them there, but in case like this it's incredibly awful.

Maybe the dude has a build that just so happens to have dragon element and doesn't want to swap it out for each hunt and is just willing to take the extra time it'll cost him for Valstraxx or whatever else he'll be hunting.

I use to use the Nerg weapons in World against everything. Didn't matter if they resisted dragon or not. Wasn't gonna make something else to fight with and swap it each time besides Dante's sword specifically for goldy boy.

No elemental during charged/enraged state. I just wish they had showed it in the Hunter's notes as well.

Your observation is accurate, the same applies to other monsters.
