Is the hammer a noob weapon?
I've tried all the weapons and honestly, the hammer is the one I really jive with. I don't like that I can't cut parts off with it but I just like that i can run in and out with it for fast big hits as a lot of the other stuff has me flinging in the air or just too slow/low damage for me to figure out how to use right, which has me end up being on my butt half the time loll. I've had somewhat success with some weapons like the charge blade and switch axe but i feel it's sort of lacking compared to me wanting to get in and out of combat a lot. I'm just wondering if this is just a noob weapon making me avoid figuring out real mechanics of the game or not :)

I am anoob but I honestly find it easier to use than stuff like the shield and sword mostly due to its dps. Then im flying in the air and like wtf hehe. also the switch axe also feels just like a lesson version of it to me lol. The big issue i have with the CB is just needing to wind it up too much to use right. I end up getting knocked down a lot and wondering wtf im doing lol

There are no "noob weapons" anymore, though I've seen stigma towards LBG for being extremely powerful.

i only genuinely tried to learn it once in mhw (because a new-to-mh friend picked it up and instantly loved it, the masochist) and i spent almost the whole fight just figuring out how to wind up for that big slam with the lightning (because it looks cool) but i just couldn't ever manage to do it while also dancing around & fighting the monster at the same time. hated it so much lol, went back to hammer straight after
maybe i'm a simple person but man the simpler stuff is just so much more fun to use

lbg being extremely powerful? bruh have u seen HBG with setting sun? you can hit like 400-600 dps with that easily.

no weapon is noob weapon. even bowguns need some skills (except sticky spammer lmao). If you like it, master it. That's the fun of mh.

Simple and straightforward doesn't necessarily mean "noob", at least in the context we're using the term. I think it's good for new players because of its simplicity, but that doesn't really mean "low skill = win games". Your win condition is very simple: bonk the head, see what happens. Use additional mechanics to help bonk said head. Doing that consistently without carting is another story, as the head area's often the most dangerous place to stand.

An easier weapon class to understand? Yes. But you still need to understand enemy attacks and how to avoid them; you can't guard with a hammer after all.

It's not that bad, I think Rise's iteration is by far its easiest. Maintain your shield boost and sharpness, and know when to Savage Axe/Discharge. Charge Blade is leagues easier to use in groups, so that's a great environment to start learning. Also, the Wirebug Counter makes it so you can pretty much neglect point-guarding.

Hammer is not a noob weapon, it regard as a boring melee weapon by some peeps because it lack many divert move sets for sure. A good hammer player can stun lock a monster for days, though they are a rare sight now day. :lunar2019piginablanket:

Yes yes we are.

And to OP, no its not in any way, we have our own problems, we are best on the head and we dont have range or crazy fancy counters, yes we have a counter but its unreliable. You are dancing with the teeth and fire close enough to kiss the monster. You dance with it, you bonk it, and you keep doing it till it forgets how to stand up then you crush its skull in like the glorious bonker you are.

And on a more serious note from a LONG time hammer player, it just clicks, if it dosent its not your weapon, my friend group wont touch it beyond giving it a try, even the greatsword friend that still uses TCS exclusively for ages and honestly needs a similar dance, all claim it takes too much skill to use it......and now that i type this i need to go beat my charge blade friend about what his issue is with it lol.

hammer is pretty cool, it has counter unlike hunting horn

Noob weapon or not, doesn't matter.
The real challenge is the monsters anyway, just play what you like.

Long story short: no, the hammer is no "noob weapon".

But I get it where the idea is coming, thinking of how easy it seems to use when you just started with the franchise. If you want a weapon for a newbie then go Sword & Shield or Charge Blade. Some even recommend Lance. Easiest handling of all probably has Gunlance.

If you need additional information, just ask.

There really arent any noob weapons. There are a few that are easier to pick up than others, but the skill ceiling in monster hunter means that any weapon can be learned and used in much higher skill levels. If i had to pick a noob weapon it would be long sword. it has so many invincibility frames and punishers that almost anyone can pick it up and be a god in like an hour.

Hammer might seem like a "noob" weapon since it has a fairly simple moveset compared to a lot of the more technical weapons like LS, CB and Swaxe, but since landing consistent head hits with the slow-ish attacks takes a decent mastery of evasion and positioning to be effective.
