Should the series do away with heavy RNG?
I personally don't care. With the exception of weapons, RNG mechanics can be completely ignored unless you're a meta slav or speed runner. As long as it doesn't mess with the core gameplay, they can keep on going with it. Again, RNG weapons are bs and hopefully don't return.

I honestly think the only reason capcom has been going so heavy with RNG in recent games is because people stopped liking the old endgame loop. Used to be just craft gear until you had all of it then work on your times. Now it's just a constant power creep

I would prefer they did. I much prefer the craft everything, completionist style end game.

Nah, they should add more
Each time you craft armor or a weapon it should come with random non-removable attributes and have a chance to be set pieces or uniques

Don't give them ideas.

Relic weapons in gen 4 were bad enough.

I don't think they should do away with it. It takes away from the replayability. People who don't care for it can just play through it once without caring about their perfect build, as you don't need it to beat the game at any given point.

But allow the RNG farming for people who wanna keep playing over and over again. It does add replayability. It might not be everybody's cup of tea and that's okay, but fans of the genre are clearly mostly into it.

Removing it does absolutely nothing. You can use the completionist argument, but I promise you nobody is going to craft all the talisman just for the sake of having them all.

RNG is a go to because it isn't pay2win like your typical korean online actio rpg or mobile the devs have to give something for us to do with a goal in mind on end game.

Without RNG MH would have no replayability, they should add more ways to control the RNG or add ways to obtain materials that you are gunning for more easily like how World let you meld materials with certain items cutting down on the grind.
Noreng Aug 9, 2022 @ 12:53pm
I kind of preferred it the way it was in MHFU, where you had to grind out a lot more materials for the final upgrades of weapons.

When I heard the next title in the series was leaked as "Paradise" I immediately thought "Pair of dice? What, they adding even more RNG?" :steammocking:

As for the RNG, it's been a staple of the franchise for so long it just wouldn't be Monster Hunter without it. It's practically an accepted meme at this point. Sure, there will be whiny baby scrubs that cheat to get past the RNG because they live in their moms basement and don't wanna get in trouble when they throw a tantrum after being carted by a Blastoad with a vendetta that's been pissing on their low skill level for the past 55 minutes, but that's just to be expected. :steammocking:

rng is just boring and very uncreative
RedEssence Aug 9, 2022 @ 3:24pm
Im fine with the current rng of monster drops, but the charm rng is way too much imo
Pumpernikkeli Aug 9, 2022 @ 3:27pm
RNG is fine, as it's an effective way to extend end game. But I'd love to see more mechanics that allow turning spent time into guaranteed results at some point.

Or people have a lot of things to do and don't have the time they used to to enjoy a series they love. If I only have a day a week to play a game I'm not about to waste hours grinding for something that isn't monster materials.

For some people it might be worse and they just wanna go bonk monsters on the head and don't have time to geind for materials at all. As long as the mods are what the game considers legal, why should anyone care?

Anyway this isn't what this thread is for, we won't be turning this into a pro-mod/ anti-mod b*tch fest. Just wanted to give my reply to it

I mean, if you just want to bonk monsters, then just do so?

Seriously, peoples gotta get off of the "good talisman = more fun" when really, theyre cutting their time shorter...isn't this counterintuitive?
Mathmatics Aug 9, 2022 @ 5:26pm
I prefer the RNG. My most time spent in MH was when there was RNG to grind in the end game. If you don't like it don't grind it. What else could the end game possibly be packed with to keep it interesting? It's easy and cheap content and I love it.
