Insect Glaive: World vs Rise?
Main Insect Glaive user here. Still learning my ways. I like it because its fast and lets me jump, it's fun to use. I think I've put most hours in MHW, clocking in at 330+ hours. 200+ in MHGU on Switch. 100+ in MH4 on 3DS. Still consider myself a newbie.

So one thing in Rise that made me rise an eyebrow is the Insect itself. I notice it is moving a lot slower compared to World. I don't remember if the older gen Insect Glaive didn't allow for faster Insects but to me the Insect seems a lot slower, granted could be because I'm only at tier 4-5 in Rise.

In World you can costumise the Insect, (my most recent memory) allowing it to be faster or hit harder as it strikes a monster. Basically I make my Insect as fast as physically possible to help gather the buffs I need. In World, I'm at tier 9 and my Insect is level 18 in Speed if I remember correctly. I don't know anything about Meta builds or builds in general but I'd like to think I do ok regardless. Is there a way to make my Insect move faster? Is there something I have missed? Or is something that simply isn't in Rise or in any other game, except for World?

TLDR: Can I make my Insect move faster in Rise? It feels slow compared to World.

Thanks for reading!

You need to use a speed type for Kinsect speed, even in the expansion speed values are 20 max. But due to the easier controls, Kinsects in World and especially in Iceborne were built for power and elemental damage for maximum damage output on a certain attack.

Now in Rise and its expansion, there's really slow Kinsects that have other benefits and decently fast ones that do less damage and have less potent gimmicks.

4U and GU had similar situations where you could trade speed and ease of use for stronger unique abilities, but outside of Iceborne and now Rise/Sunbreak, the Kinsect's damage was never the main focus.

Essentially, the highest speed value in the base game is 19, which is pretty decent, but slower Kinsects excel in other areas. If you want to gather your triple up fast, get any assist Kinsect that has the "Dual Color" Kinsect bonus, it'll always grab two extracts, one of which is fixed and determined by whether it's Speed, Attack, or Defense.

You can use your own body to extract.
3 of the new switch skills have an effect that throws you at the monster and gives you extract from where you land.

Kinsect glide is the most notable.
"Kinsect Slash" that replaces helicopter (only works if you dont currently hold red extract - but as long as you dont you can techincally extract all 3)
The kinsect throw that also uses up all your current extract yeets your body at the monster and gives you the extract of the location where you connect. (Has its uses but obviously not ideal if youre trying to get all extracts).

Other than that the sunbreak "powder boost" (?name?) new assist kinsects give you a orange cloud after a certain number of (assist)hits while you already have all 3 extracts. Touching that cloud while you still have extracts increases their duration (20seconds? duration reset? not sure) and more importantly you can touch the powder at any point in time to instantly get all 3 extracts. You can interact with that powder cloud up to 2 times before it disappears.

The best advise I can give is stay closer to the monster to gather extracts, when you're close speed doesn't matter. It's up to debate in Rise but in World the slowest kinsect is the best one

Thanks for all the info!
I need to hit the sparring area to learn those moves! :D

Someone once psa this in world several years ago, I tried it myself and it does work. Slowest kinsect only does not work as longer range extract sniper, it works for any other purposes. Such as kinsect marking, diving wyvern strike, and the kinsect tornado combo (tornado slash cancel into kinsect throw).

A special journey indeed
There is also the new Powder Vortex Kinsect which are really fun. After you mark the monster the Kinsect goes out and auto attacks leaving powder clouds. Once you have multiple clouds using RT + Y and B causes the Kinsect to suck up all nearby Powder Clouds and Detonate them.

The Blunt version drops Healing and Paralysis Powder and deals decent damage on its explosions. The explosions combine the Para and healing powder into a fairly good sized AoE of player healing and potent Paralysis Status. In MR I can trigger 5 or 6 Paralysis states in just about 8 minutes.

The Severing version drops Healing and Blast and this little bug is practically a nuke! Just using the Marking Slap during your combos and let the little guy build up some powders. Once you feel you are ready let him suck it all up and Detonate all over the monster. So far my best powder bomb was 2488 damage on a Kinsect lvl 12.

Rise's IG is the most fun that weapon ever been. The only thing I miss is customizable kinsects with elemental damage.
I cleared base game pretty much exclusively using dual color assist kinsect, but now, with new moves in Sunbreak, I use speed and powder like 6 to 4.
Always use blunt ones to have stuns.
Speed is really good at staggering monsters, it goes right through them when it charges in the air, hitting multiple times.
And powder explosion, oohh boy, that thing is fun and procs statuses like nobody's business.
I don't get new assist kinsects, so can't say anything there.

Honestly besides the faster bugs worlds IG was trash outside of specific fights, made Velkhana and a few other hunts basically free. And outside of that IG was only even semi competent on the ground due to the other 95% of the monsters having skybox high hurtbox's with a chunk of their moves along with your airborn damage being a small fraction of what it was on the ground.

With rise you can be groundbound or airborn and perform nearly as well either way along with the new bug mechanics, yes the bugs are slower but the things they let you do are not only fun but effective, assists give you extra damage with lots of various moves in your kit along with the new master rank ones dropping a full 3/3 extract buff on the ground when you use them enough and powder nukes are just a pure white pants moment most of the time.

Sunbreaks IG is the best and most fun it's ever been. Kinsect Slash into dive.... or jumping into boosted powder extracts with awakened kinsect attack is so fun.

It also has it's own minigame now where you have to vacuum your dust for extremlely high dmg numbers.

I skipped the replies but your Kinsect level and thus it's stats are controlled by your glaive. The stronger your glaive, the stronger your kinsect stats. By the time you get the final glaives, you can use any kinsect and pretty much guarantee it will be at the max speed of 20.
I first got teh MR severing speed Kinsect in Sunbreak and then about 3/4ths of the way through realized I could still use Windchopper for the Triple Up without losing any speed because it can't go over 20 and a level 14 or 15 will bump Windchopper up to 20, meaning Triple Up with no speed loss (there is a small damage difference between Windchopper and teh MR Speed bug, but who is using them to attack anyway?)
Note:
I personally prefer triple up because it adds 30 seconds to extract time. meaning a 10 minute hunt only needs 5 extracts refills versus 7. (with power prolonger lvl 3 of course)

kinsect in rise automatically attack when you attack, so you dont need to manually send them to monster, and the speed yes its very slow but at the same time the dual color insect only took 2 second to gather 3 extract
