Is palamute even good?
palamute feels so lackluster especially it's kits, meanwhile palico always been that useful even in world, and in rise palico is nuts with all the skills, other than for traverse, the dps seems meh as well,my palico still do that much with stupid op kits

Dogs with slikbind guns do 30% of the monster's HP (the percentage increases the less damage you deal on your own) and apply status faster than status ammo, so yeah they're broken.

In what world? Neither Palamute nor the palico deal any significant damage at all, if your buddies are contributing anywhere near 30% of the total damage dealt then you are playing terribly.

First of all, you should never even look at their damage when comparing them, that part is the least relevant one. You look at their utility, like the various buffs palicos can provide, or the fact that you can zoom around with a Palamute.

Also no, they aren't really good at applying status effects either. "apply status faster than status ammo" again, in what world? You're getting a single proc of the status effect from your buddies every hunt, TOPS. (unless it happens due to the gadgets).

I love them when I do gather runs or just for faster horizontal travel when playing solo. Also that one heal spam umbrella was kinda cool.

You're saying Palamute gadgets are good enough to deal close to 30% of monster's health as damage? I find that incredibly hard to believe.

They're powerful to the point where speedruns are using double gun dogs because the damage they output, even in perfectly scripted runs, is almost irreplaceable. In casual hunts they can easily do more than 30% of your damage.

Edit: Found a nice video showcasing the dogs with a damage overlay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZy2oetYrmE

There's someone that does speedruns that literally just posted a video demonstrating how comically overtuned the damage on the Canyne Silkbinder is, enough that cats are entirely non-competitive for DPS purposes

Palicos don't come close to the DPS of the dogs, even with bombs/fighter palico buffs.

only if i have the gadget rn,i trying to make it work in base rise,it's awful other than using for travelling, atleast palico can assist with some healing kits and traps

I always bring a palamute to chase monsters around. And for the general fun.

But, if it is a REALLY hard fight, id bring 2 palicos focused on support.
