Would you buy a DLC with the three removed weapons?
Question in topic. Would you think buying a DLC would be worth it if it reintroduced one (or all) of the three removed weapons?
Tonfa, Magnet Spike, and Accel Axe.

The Tonfas and Accel Axe look fun. The Magnet Spike looks interesting and complicated.
As someone who has only played the western pc Monster Hunters (World and Rise), I missed the games that introduced the weapons and would love to try them out.

The Magnet Spike, while interesting, was so absolutely busted OP. It would have to be heavily balanced. There would be so many people complaining that it wasn't disgusting anymore.

Accel Axe is pretty lit and I'd love to see it added.

I don't know much about the Tonfas to really know either way, but my short read of that wiki page I read in the past makes it sound cool. No idea if it was weak, balanced, or OP though.

Any weapons added, new or old, would be fine by me as long as they didn't step on the toes of other weapons too hard and were balanced around the current game's gameplay.

Tonfas were considered OP in the game they were in due to them having the hammer's knockout potential, the dual blade's attack speed, and the insect glaive's ability to stay in the air. They honestly sound fun as hell.
Balancing would definitely be required. But I am definitely a fan of high speed and maneuverability. That's why IG and DB are the only melee I use when I get tired of being a bow main. Thinking about switching to gunner if I ever buy Sunbreak. I've only unlocked the first 7 star mission so far and want to finish the base game before making my decision.

Not exactly a "removed" weapon when it only ever existed in frontier in the first place.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of with the Tonfas; they really make it sound like DB but with tons of KO, but it's hard to gauge without looking into it or asking around.

I've never been a Bowgun user and I'm too much of a brainlet to keep track of crafting ammo, ammo loadouts, ammo radial wheels, etc. Not saying Bowgun is bad at all and in any way, I'm just the big dumb.
I like GS, CB, GL, Bow, SA, and DB. Me hit monster.

Could you consider it removed when Frontier is dead now?
Not technically correct, but it is technically gone.

Oh, and what about Medium Bowgun?

I read that medium bowgun's abilities were spread between light and heavy, so nothing is actually 'removed'.
As for tonfas? I'm not sure about the damage. They were called 'op' because they were too versatile and capable. No clue where the dps actually sat.
Though I read the magnet spike was number one and quite above number two in damage if you mastered it.
The accel axe could also dish out absolutely obscene damage once you got the speed boost up.

The Magnet Spike was definitely absurd.

And yeah, the Med. Bowgun got spread out, I was kinda just poking fun at it.
Forgot my wink emoji I use often.

Yeah. The graphs I've seen make number 2 in damage look closer to number 5 than number 1 for magnet spike.

I desperately want new weapons after learning how to more or less effectively use every currently available weapon type, wouldn't mind those removed weapons to return either as I've never had the chance to try em.

No

I'd buy it because I'm an idiot but I don't think it'd be a good idea

I'd buy a full expansion pack if it came with a new weapon, sure. That'd just be a cherry on the top, really. I'd rather not have to do though, and simply have the weapon itself baked into the game from the start, so we saw Low Rank and High Rank versions of it instead of just a Master Rank version (or didn't have to hop back into Low Rank and High Rank to make it) etc.

Not sure I'd be a fan of them adding a whole DLC that was just a weapon and nothing else though. While it would be a way to possibly safeguard them making unique models and giving the weapon the love it deserved, I'm not sure I want Capcom and Monster Hunter to go down that route.

I'm happy with the main content being free (and decent) while the buyable content being a major expansion and then a bunch of highly optional cosmetics. A new weapon would be like solid gold in a game like this. Putting it behind a paywall would suck, it'd be a sign of worse things to come. Perhaps not as bad as paywalling being able to customise your character at will, but still.

Better if you buy the optional content because you like the game, rather than buying """optional""" content because you're forced to.

I would consider to support the devs if they really put effort into reviving all these artifacts.

But at the same time I fear it will encourage the future Monster Hunter series to further fragment their content and lock them behind a pay wall.

Currently all DLCs except Sunbreak are purely for aesthetics and I'm fine with that. But I would hate to see weapon/movesets/actual gears that are locked behind small DLCs.
SmallGespenst Aug 29, 2022 @ 9:11am
if they introduced a DLC of new weapons I wouldn't buy it no matter how good they are 'cause that's such an immensely ♥♥♥♥♥♥ design choice. made worse by the fact that Tonfa and Magnet spikes were op as all hell, so it'd be a straight-up "pay-to-win" garbage pile of an inclusion.
also Tonfa and Magnet spike reek of being made to be the best weapon in the game to push the latest expansion. good riddance.

Problem with getting those weapons in mainline titles is a legal issue, we'll never have them in a mainline title since they are unique to the game they are in.
