HR Mizutsune urgent quest
This thing is wrecking me in hub quests (failed multiple times, personally dying once in each). Is stacking water resist enough to survive a hit? The water beam isn't what gets me but I wonder if the charge / tail attacks are also water...

The physical attacks are, well, physical. Water resist won't help against those, only the beam.
Try upgrading your armour, whether it be getting better armour or doing so with use of armour cores.

Just having high defence is enough to tank just about anything short of apex monsters, but you'll find it a lot easier if you learn to dodge the monster's attacks instead.

Of course but I'd like to be able to not get 1-shotted, just in case.

Guess it's time to grind out a decent HR armor set...

If you were using LR armour then yeah, you will take massive damage because you're not supposed to be using LR armour whatsoever in HR, save for getting a set of HR armour ASAP.

What petalace are you using? It shouldn't take more than 2 or 3 minutes to get your health over 200 before you start the fight and Mizu can't one one shot that even assuming it's a poverty build with no water res.

I mean you won't have much left over but it's pretty much a free moxie if you can sheath in time to pot or farcaster back to base.

I assume you are doing this as a group and not solo. Maxing out your armor upgrades like the above suggestions are really good and try bringing a high level healing palico instead of the palamute. Make sure they have the vase skill to wash away blights and the bubbles (bring nulberries for this as well).

Personally, if I'm struggling with clearing something with PUG groups, I go full support with the hunting horn and maxed wide-range skills and act as the "healer" of the group spamming hi-potions and dust of life.

Up until this fight there hasn't been anything that made me feel the need to optimize my armor. Maybe primarily using bow has something to do with that...

I didn't think changing the petalace would make much of a difference but I'll try the defensive one.

yeah full HR gear should be enough to tank hits. i went into it a bit cocky with half LR gear and it was a ohko machine

The petalace decides how much health you get per bird plus the max cap. If you set your map filter to "other endemic life >> green spiribird" you'll see green icons pop up everywhere.

At least gathering your max spiribird buff at the start of a hunt can double your health bar and takes just minutes.

If you add a couple more minutes to grab some yellows as well you can make a hunt vastly easier.

Yes this fight was kind of nuts if going straight into without the strongest available armor at that point cause the water laser will 1 shot.

I would try to stack water res decos if craftable as well as eating for felyne defender, water res dango, and moxie or booster.

Red bubbles buff you so you can touch those. If afflicted with bubble blight, don't sprint, you can slide around instead walking normally.

Cope, or get carried, or git gud. Those are your options.

However, it's basic common sense to immediately trade your LR set for a HR one which has not only way better skills, but way better defenses, and decoration slots too. Just in case you somehow forgot to do the obvious.

The biggest mistake I see people make is not upgrading their gear. I use magnamalo LR Gear for most of HR. Upgrade at the blacksmith and fully max out the armor. If you are unsure what to go, another easy recommendation is Izuchi / Ignot combo gear. Gives high Weakness Exploit and attack. General build to pump damage until you get later on in HR and you can start focusing on what you need.

im using aknosom S full set, is that good enough for general HR hunt?
HR mats are really pain to farm
HNTR Jan 17, 2022 @ 3:12pm
That's why I'm currently farming for a better HR armor before taking on that quest. If only luck was on ym side and give me those damn two items I need to complete my set... I thought about maybe going multiplayer instead of solo now to farm this thing faster but my social anxiety and some players just ruin it for me. Haven't played online stuff with others since MH4U. I just can't get people who play for fun rather than just flaming everyone and being a jackass. Even though I've played every previous game I just play games overall for fun and relaxation from real life and not something else like being ultra tryhard.

However a tip I could give for soloing stuff in general is to always have flashbombs and barrel bombs handy along with traps and combine material (in case you run out of them as retrieving these involves abandoning the quest to get new utensils from your chest) for some extra damage and crowd control. It Stunning or other types of making a monster incapable gives you easy free extra damage and it's one of the most common strategies actually. Don't know about how effective sleepbombing is in the newer games as it was probably nerfed for a reason but back in the day it was another good strategy to kill stuff fast and effectively.
Also make sure to always have might seeds/mega demondrug and adamant seeds/mega armorskin as they can boost your stats a bit.
