How do you join a multiplayer hunt?
I have tried joining other players' lobbies but once I have connected there doesn't seem to be any information on what quest they are doing. I have tried going to the quest board but it only lets me start quests on my own. How do i join another players hunt?

You can only join hub quest and not village quest. so either the person who posted the quest did a village quest which is solo only or they set it so you cant join them in the hub quest.

Thanks for the replies, I am used to the MHW way of doing things.

I haven't done any Hub quests yet myself, so I assume on hub quests I'll be able to send an SOS flare for others to join me like in World?

And if i join a lobby, i'll only be able to join a quest if it's a hub quest, which i should be able to see and join via the quest board.

Is this correct? ( I am going to bed so don't have time to test)

the world concept are the new one, the hub is from the old gen, that how people group back in time
Village quests are solo based unlike the hub quests are multiplayer focused. You can create a lobby or join a lobby by going to the cat on the box right below and next to where Elder Fugen is standing. Press "Play Online" and you are good to go.

Yeah a lot of the (My first Monhun game is MHW) players are not familiar with MHR. Is there anything else you'd like to know?

Yeah, I remember reading reviews when it came out on switch that there would be a learning curve for MHW players.

Just to briefly touch on multiplayer again, I tried joining multiple lobbies and each time there didn't seem to be any way to identify what other players in the lobby were doing. Should there be some sort of indicator that tells me stuff like if other players are still in Kamura preparing or if they have already started a quest?

I am so used to just joining and sending an SOS...

Other than multiplayer, the only other mechanic I haven't quite figured out yet is the monster riding mechanic, I understand that you have to do the special sticky attack moves to weaken the monster but on charge blade those moves don't seem to do anything. I only managed to complete the riding tutorial thanks to the spider puppet bugs.

I don't think there is a way if the players are in Kamura. But I think a quest pops up if the host posts a quest.

There is no mounting system like MHW. You deal a certain amount of damage to a monster and it gives you the availability to ride the monster using the new mechanic "wirebugs".

You can do 3 things "Spam Strong Attack >> Dodge"
"Hold on the run button" or "Go near a sandwiched wall and launch the monster and regain it's footings."

hub monsters got higher health and damage, its made for 4 people, you can solo it if you are confident with your skill level.

Just to expand a little regarding wyvern-riding you have forward/neutral and backwards directional inputs for heavy and light attack, some of which are much better than others in a monster's moves.
What is important though is that some monsters actually have status-inflicting moves mixed into this selection, such as poison or the various elemental blights, so using those is an excellent idea as it will give you a further edge once you're done with the riding.
Sometimes the special attack you can do once the bar is filled while riding, inflicts these statuses too, but not always.

Hub monsters scale all the down to solo player level now. They're still stronger than village quest monsters though of the equivalent rank, so, yeah.

Indeed but I don't like spending too much time riding on the monster that isn't my target. Spamming Strong Attack and dodge saves me a lot of time while also inflicting decent amount of numbers.

Thanks for all the info guys, I have only played RISE for about 7 hours so I am still getting my ♥♥♥♥ together.

I have over 500 hours in MHW and i still don't know how half of the mechanics in that game work haha. Hopefully there aren't any fights like Alatreon in Iceborne, I was never able to beat that prick >:(

If you're looking to do specific quests, you don't need to join lobbies for that though. Try going to the quest board and use the join request function there, then select the quest you're looking for. You can also opt in to have your hub quest have 'join request' active, when accepting it, which means that from the second you start the hunt, anyone can join it, provided they also have access to the quest themselves, and without needing to even enter your lobby.

That's no problem, i'd go as far and argue that's quite for some people to struggle through a Monster Hunter Game the first few hours, not specific on difficulty but new mechanics introduced. Underwater-Combat in Tri was back than quite a hard take on for me, though nowdays i quite miss them sometimes...(esp. due i miss one of my most favorite monster lagi </3)

Also maybe i overlooked it somehwere, but Rise does have SOS Flares(or did they scrap it from PC Version) but also HUB-Quests only, though i'm gonna be honest, i don't remember how you access it due i do them so rarely due i tend to play MH rather solo or with friends...
