MONSTER HUNTER RISE

Statistiche:
Is MHGU worth playing in 2021-22?
It's on sale on the Switch eshop. I'm new to this series, is that game a good pick for me?

Idk but i would of love to try MHGU if it was ported to PC, since i donot own a switch and never will own. Hence why rn, i would prefer Rise and World atm. I used to own a psp to play MHFU, and i woulf prefer to play that aswell if my console was still alive ;-;

MHGU is hella worth playing still.

Just make sure you approach the game with correct mindset. This is an anniversary game made for fans of the series. They expect you to know how to navigate the classic MH games. What does this mean? A few things:

- There is close to zero handholding. You're just thrust in there and expected to know who to talk to, how to progress and unlock new village ranks, the difference between hub and village quests, how to navigate menus, and so on. If you thought World was an overwhelming experience, you have no idea. Of course, knowing Monster Hunter World will help you a ton, but it can also be a crutch since MHGU does a lot of things different too. So, be ready to have no idea what the ♥♥♥♥ is going on at the beginning.

- The game is old and was made for 3DS. That should say enough. But expect a game with very old school visuals (still look pretty because artstyle is great!), classic MH controls and it's quirks (like keeping forward momentum when running), 30fps cap, a lot of very short loading screens, maps that consist of zones and are not one big field.

- A lot things present in World are not here. A LOT. Forget about clutch claw, palico gadgets, mantles, free whetstones, radial menu, precise sharpness meter and so on. Also get ready to do a 2 second long flexing animation when you drink any consumable. That's the old world way!

- Grind. Everything in World (and Rise) is easy to make, around 3 hunts and you could make a whole armor set or a weapon. You can also use investigations to get those rare materials easier. And in MHGU? Hahahahaha :mhwhappy: If you want to wear that Rathalos set and craft his fancy Charge Blade, get ready to grind. 3 hunts to craft everything? How about 3 hunts to craft A SINGLE PIECE? Yeah... old school MH games made you work for every cool piece of equipment. Get ready to fight the monster 10+ times to get everything you need for it's armor set. But really, that sounds much worse than it actually is. I actually like that you have to work for it and pretty much master the fight in the process ,makes the process much more rewarding.

- Difficulty. The game is much harder. Monsters hit harder, move quicker when enraged, weapons are less forgiving and require more precision and intent to use, you can't restock consumables. There's probably more that I don't remember. So, get ready because Low Rank in MHGU will probably feel like High Rank from MHW. Also, Multiplayer hunts DO NOT scale to single player. So if you like playing solo, get ready for some real challenge later in the game. Popcorn said the hunts in G rank can take like 20 minutes. I'd say 20 minutes if you are playing well. If you're taking 20 minutes to kill MHW monsters in Master Rank, you will probably be needing twice that amount for MHGU G rank quests. I play MH games solo and I loved the challenge personally.

What do you get in return? An INSANE amount of content. This is the most packed MH game. More than a hundred Monsters IIRC and more quests than you have time to do. Also, it has the most variety when it comes to how you can play your weapons. you can do silly things like play an Aerial Great Sword, where your dodge launches you off the Monster like Insect Glaive and you can charge your weapon mid air. Also, Valor Long Sword exists, which is (almost) a good enough reason on it's own to get the game,

I'm curious to hear the fun factor from the vets of the older games, Was the dopamine rush from a successful hunt, or was the entire hunt fun all the way, Because I've heard some quite annoying stuff like bad hitboxes and such.
I mean, its more the experience. Seregios and Gore Magala are very unique fights. Narjarala, Nibelsnarf, Deviants, Malfestio, fights that arent in World and Rise, are very unique and fun to themselves, because theyre radically different then many "standard" fights that, for example, World brings. Rise does go back to the older world charm with a lot of new monsters, like Goss Harag, Almudron, Rakna, etc, where it's a sorta familiar fight, but with radical changes.

It depends on the monster. Some monsters are just plain old unfun to fight in my opinion (not a single soul likes Cephadrome). Unfortunately the early game of MHGU is littered with those monsters.
That being said, the game is genuinely fun. Hunting the monster, finally beating it, making equipment, all of it exudes dopamine. It helps that there are a ton of styles available for each weapon so you're bound to find something that tickles your fancy.
You also have the Deviant monster hunts, Super Monsters which have a power level between 1-EX.

EX fights are harder than anything in World / Iceborne where one mistake can kill you.
got it few days ago and it's pretty good tho feels a bit clunky but that's not a problem for me i previously played mhw and mhr

Have fun! It's a journey for sure. The clunky nature of the controls goes away very fast too.
It's more old-fashioned, yes, but it's still an excellent game, not to mention it has the largest list of monsters in the entire series thus far.
Does mean you have to make do without quality of life stuff, such as infinite whetstones, being able to resupply mid-hunt, (visible)weapon-trees, the like.

The site below is a very, very handy resource, as it provides information for MHGU such as where you can find certain items, including if they're specific to certain quests, along with weapon trees, drop tables, combo lists, skills, decorations, hunter arts, veggie elder and more.

GU have tons of returning monsters, but they're not balanced around the new weapon styles and get rekt'd by them.

Yeah that's kind of an inherent weakness of the game itself, what with the addition of styles and arts without the resources to adjust the monsters to account for those. With the variety of styles available, there's always gonna be an option that just utterly demolishes certain monsters, or that are borderline unusable.
