Yes, the rampage mission might not give as much money, but you can farm millions in no time if you farm ore. So zenny should never be anyone's motive late game hunting.
And as for time spent on missions, those aforementioned missions are huge time sinks even though they aren't tough. Kill the Jyuratodus and Somnacanth as fast as you want, you are still stick waiting 3 minutes in the mission for all 3 kills (since the next boss doesn't show up for a minute after the last one dies). The Ghosts and Goblins mission is just as bad, taking probably 15 minutes if you are a fast solo hunter. Since monsters run constantly, the petalace isn't maxed, and Vilvidron/Basarios are two of the worst monsters for wasting your time.
Frankly, I probably could do 7star red rampage missions faster and get 5x the hunter rank and 2-4x the mats (4x if you count defender tickets for tali farming). In fact, I wished I didn't have to do that G&G mission 3 times just to get the Authur armour. It felt like torture grinding for that ugly layered armour that I will never use anyway.
If they try to make them more of a thing in Sunbreak, then I will hate them. Because they suck.
it's not badly designed or anything, but it simply doesn't mesh with Monster Hunter.
It's basically just familar faces in a completely different setup.
Sadly Capcom adores this new gimmick and they will live and die on this hill.
expect a lot more rampage (more apex monsters added to it which you need to clear in order to unlock their respective quests. and Sunbreak wil most certainly add a whole lot more of it.)
OK, so it's not just me that feels this way. Sometimes I theorize that Capcom does this not because the fan base likes it, but because they themselves like it.
To each his own. It takes me about 17 minutes to run them on average, and given I go back to camp to restock HBG ammo I'm not stuck waiting these 1 minutes that you think you have to really wait.
Regardless, at the end of the day, I'd still do a hunt quest over a rampage.
I don't like tower defense, and I don't think it belongs in Monster Hunter.
I do feel like it's not a bad optional thing, you aren't really required to do outside of a couple quests. Just means more content to me, some variety.
