MONSTER HUNTER RISE

Helm breaker hits all accumulate on the ground and ignore high targets
I hope I can explain this correctly:
When doing a helm breaker most of the hits pass through any part of the monster that is high up and land right where my hunter is. I remember it being different in World where the helm breaker could be sort of "blocked" by a wing or tail thats up high and hit that.

In Rise, I swear it feels like the game doesn't detect objects that are higher up and just ignores them for the helm breaker. I've had several instances where my sword technically hit a tail but because of the way it seems to work in this game I just miss the attack. There might be a way of choosing whether the hits bunch up on the ground or hit anything along the path of the strike. I think I've heard something like that before somewhere.

Anyways, please let me know if this is just how it works in RIse or if I am a dummy, thanks.

You definitely can hit higher up targets but it sort of seem like it detects from the ground up instead of the other way around. There's also sometimes where it just plain doesn't work. I swing right through the center of a monster and just no damage at all which is a shame cause if it happens 2-3 times in a hunt I'm out 2k damage or so.

Yeah, it can happen for sure but it feels so inconsistent. It mostly only registers like one or two hits and the rest land on the ground like i described before. LS is op enough as it is but it still sucks that the helm breaker mechanics are still pretty wonky.

i thought that you need to press the trigger again at the desired height to get the hits to land on that spot

I can't find the video but if you press Y (or whatever the attack 1 button is probably) just before the downward slash you'll get hits all along the path instead of just the bottom. If you practice it in the training area you'll pick it up pretty quickly

Edit: found it https://youtu.be/j8BLSjIkunI

I'm not having any consistency in the training room. It seems borderline random if it hits higher or not regardless of if I time it, mash it, don't hit it at all, hold it. Sometimes it hits high, sometimes it doesn't, with each of those methods. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

That's also the video I got the information from but I can't seem to get it right as well.
So I sat in training room for like half an hour after watching the video. First thing to note, you don't need to press attack 1, you can just hit R2 again. Second thing to note, you can mash R2, you don't have to time it. I'm basing this off attempts where all 7 procs landed on the normal height head of the training dummy like he shows in the video. Finally, I cannot get any consistency on it. I don't think I've done it twice in a row.

In the comments you can see this was done before a patch that "fixed" helm breakers so I'm wondering if that has affected it.
