Dedicated servers or p2p?
heii everyone!
I want to play with a friend from the US. We have previously played Human: Fall Flat together with about a 3 second delay in input since her Internet isn't the best. Will we experience similar issues here? Or will it be link in Dauntless where i don't notice her poor connection on my end

Your question is more specific than the title indicated. I can tell you for now only the answer for the title: P2P with server browser via dedicated with region lock so it seems.

Is the region lock hard or soft? Since i'm in europe could i even connect to her?

P2P I believe, with backstep servers. As long as you see damage numbers, you are hitting the monster, even if you miss and land a hit on someone else's screen, only yours counts

Changing your download region will change your servers

Sorry. That is something I do not know. I have read about the region lock but have not noticed it myself yet. Maybe someone else can help you with better insight on the matter.

Does this mean change it before the download or change it before launching?

And this sounds very good! It means that my input is fully counted since it's applied on my end and then delivered? Or am i misundrstanding this?

You understood it pretty much correctly.
If there is a ~ let us say ~ moment of freeze for one second. And you dealt 100 damage in that moment - the damage will be accounted for as soon as the freeze is over. That is when you are client. When you are host it will be accounted for anyroads. That is P2P.

What if ~let us say~ there is a 3 second delay and the monster is not where i see it or teleporting but i applied damage to it that falls in the same category as the freeze right?

Correct.
You definitely have less to worry here. In PvP games it would be a different story, where every frame counts. Since it is a PvE game there is no issue for the game to sync such kind of desync with no disadvantages for the players.

I have had experienced that scenario you described myself.

Thank you so much you have certainly saved my day! and freed me from these worries.
We were trying to play the DEMO and were unable to connect even after i switched to the US download location but knowing that this definitely works in the full game is a relief.
Overall i feel there is much more polish and features in the full game. The DEMO barely does it justice and is more of a solo demo to get a feel and see if it runs

Chaos Mana deserves your thanks more for that information I did not know about the region lock ~ that would be most important for you to enjoy with your overseas friend!

You are right about the polishment of the game and such. Thankfully Monster Hunter is by tradition a game which gets constantly updated with free DLCs to a certain point. And the biggest reason to have a long time enjoying it: playing it with friends. Or as I tend to say: with a rival ~ https://steamcommunity.com/app/1446780/discussions/0/3202622816428146540/

Happy hunting! :mhwgood:
