Made with the power of encouragement by the many kind words I got from you ~ thank you so much for being a great Monster Hunter Community!

========================================

Since it does not seem anything the community makes gets pinned here: if you think this thread is helpful in any kind, or you like to contribute, please comment to keep this one "afloat" for better visibility. Thank you.

========================================
This one is dedicated towards all players who are new to the game and new to the franchise. As a veteran you know the tips and hints by heart.
It is up to you to shape the community by being a role model.
========================================

1. Greet Each Other
Start each hunt with a proper greeting. It does not have to be some lengthy poem ~ it suffices to use the premade shortcuts which have auto translation, or a nice sticker which says "Hi!". Small talk is up to you personally - I can only encourage people to do so, for there have been many friendships born from a good/great gaming session together.

Tip: For those daring doers ~ share guild cards with your fellow hunters so they can find you more easily with your information if you wish. You get also extra bonus points towards friendship rewards when you are playing with someone you exchanged cards with.

2. Hello, Newbie!
Let others know if you are a beginner or you do not know the monster you are dealing with yet. There is no shame in admitting you are what I call a "newbie". Veterans love newbies - for every new player is an addition to our beloved community and a possible friend and partner to enjoy the game even more. Be considerate towards each other. Veteran hunters are willing to help and to teach. In return all you need to do is willing to learn and avoiding reckless actions. Do not overestimate yourself and just throw yourself into the fray because the others do that seemingly. If you are new, take your time, let the others know - and you will soon be on par when you allow it. Everyone started as a beginner. Everyone used to be a beginner. There is no shame nor disadvantage in telling you are new. Only advantages and benefits for people knowing not to ask too much from you and teaching you the ropes if needed. Veterans are role models after all.

Together to enjoy the game even more.

3. Supplies Are For Everyone
In multiplayer you notice the generously stacked supply chest. Well, "generously", because the content is for four players. Take your share and leave what you do not need. With two players each hunter take half and leave what they do not need. With three players: leave the leftover share as reserve. Beginners and unlucky hunters do not need to fear losing their face for taking them when it happens they run out of supplies.

4. Eat Before Each Hunt & Resupply
Not enough supplies in the supply box?
No problem. You can refill items and even change equipment in the tent at the camp.

And if you have forgotten to eat - you can do that too in the tent!
Nice to know, right?

5. Be Considerate Towards Each Other (Flinch)
Some weapons like Hammer, Long Sword, or Switch Axe e.g. can trip or worse your fellow hunters in your party. It is recommended to have for yourself armour decoration which provides you with the Flinch Free skill for that matter. But it actually starts with being considerate and knowing "hey, your weapon does that which you might never knew from single player!" Please keep that in mind when you are in close combat. Also some range attacks do that too. There is not much like "friendly fire" which does damage, but tripping someone by "friendly fire" can cause combos to disconnect or worse.

Tip: Advanced hunting parties know their individual roles. Cutters go for the tails, breakers for breakable parts, knockers for the head and so on. With a maximum of four players in a hunting party there is usually always enough space to distribute around a monster so everyone can do maximum damage without being in others' harms way.

Extra tip: you can like everyone in your party at the end of a hunt!
It is not limited to only one member.

6. Be Considerate with Capture/Kill
Remember the Capturing Tutorial? No? No worries. Long story short: MHR offers with some monsters different rewards and different chances with different finishers. Whether you kill a target or capture it might significantly influence the outcome of rewards. As a client it is custom to let the host decide about the finisher. Though I encourage people to communicate.

Here is an example of a reward/loot table
https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/1830151274467965729/3FDD1DB67F8503F9CC53792294C3BDF8FDCE83D2/

Interpret it however you want - I do not question what is more rewarding to you, whether in numbers or whatsoever. All you need to know is: there is a difference which matters. Imagine you are after a certain item to craft a weapon, and just at the finishing moments someone takes you that chance away just for using the unfit finisher. You might not knew. Now you do.

Tip: Stickers, hotkeys, radial menu - you know the "jazz"

7. Emergency Capture
It is custom to discard the idea of killing the target after two faints/carts. That is purely due to the exponentially risen risk that if two carts already happened, the risk of a third time being incredibly high (as a matter of course: the monster just carted players two times - of course it can and want to do it a third time!!!).

That also often puts into consideration when you kill a target while one just got carted - the kill might happen within the next few seconds when the monster is already weakened. Often the carted ones will have a hard time to return to the battlefield in time for carves.

8. Multiplayer Item Loadouts
Item loadouts is a given. Having one for multiplayer is optional and yet recommended.
You can have 40 item loadouts and 24 radial menu loadouts. You have more than enough possibilities to adjust your hotkeys to have not only hotkeys for your single player hunts, but also for different setups in multiplayer. Most likely you just need one menu for multiplayer. The rest is for communication hotkeys.

This is an example multiplayer loadout I am using
https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/1820018420514923659/0C63960705B776934C49F5BE5413C2C331F4E69A/

Basically the same I use for HR with the difference I added some area of effect heal/buff items. They are cheap, and you can help easily your fellow hunters. Just keep in mind that there are some builds which require other hunters to be on lower health than probably you are used to.

9. Listen & Bomb / Keep Attacking
Aside from "Fufu", I mean Khezu, monsters BGM will stop when they fall asleep. Listen and pay attention: when the music stops for whatever reason - one used Sleeping Toad or Sleeping Ammo etc. => Cease your attacks!

Use that opportunity to place Mega Barrel Bombs next to its head and let the strongest weapon user do the "wake up call". It might not do much on the long run, but it is always a welcome recovery opportunity no hunter wants to miss.

Due to gameplay effects which differ from older installments, this tradition might be outdated. So it can happen that players do keep attacking while knowing about the opportunity, for a related reason.

In doubt do like before: communicate and coordinate with each other!

Some might just keep attacking for the sake of speed and a high DPS rate. It is not a bad thing when they do so, nor are those necessarily beginners.
It is just a different approach on the matter. Keep that in mind ~

10. Use and Edit Autoshoutouts
As mentioned before, there are shortcuts which even have auto translate. But there is so much more when you check the chat menu. In addition to stickers for easy communication, I advise you to give them a look as well. That way you can e.g. let other people automatically know when a monster starts limping for capture/kill.

https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/1830150829981762180/57604E48E88C8B1C036C9AD1821A8F1AF4D8095E/

The game has so many convenient shortcuts for communication, considering there is no default keyboard with the original version on Nintendo Switch. You have a keyboard now. Use it to communicate. And make use of the mentioned shortcuts and tricks to keep it simple and convenient.

Tip: Stickers with few words are often more visible than a line.

11. Palico > Palamute
This might be one of the things which can be broken down to "a matter of preference". Truth is: utility beats mobility, especially once you unlocked all sub-camps and master wirebug moving. Please do not feel bad for newbies who like to ride their Palamutes. I rather encourage everyone to find what fits them best. And newbies tend to watch role models closely, and they understand when they see how great a Palico can be in multiplayer in comparison to a Palamute.

Tip: this might be helpful to find your perfect "nyan nyan aibo" :mhwhappy:
https://twitter.com/GeckoTH/status/1378051224004567041

12. Post-Hunt-Routine Optimisation
- "cash-in" sub-quests and take new ones
- refresh item loadout
(- check on new pal recruits)
(- check on new trade-in items)
- every 5th recovery round send out mewcenaries
- when you send mewcenaries check on cohoot nest for free items
- every 10th recovery round give trainer a new Lagniapple

All that takes circa 30-50 seconds when you are in routine?
Last but not least: do not forget to eat. If you forget, remember you can do that during the quest in the camp's tent ~ you can either adjust what you eat by the quest, or set up "usual sets" for doing that quickly.

13. Rampage
- go into the fray with your weapon when counter is signaled
- try to work towards subquests for better rewards and score
- like above with new monsters: let people know if you are not used to the game mode yet!

14. Powercharm, Powertalon, Armorcharm, Armortalon
After many urgent quests the inventory of the merchants update with new items. Among them you will find two relatively expensive trinkets: the powercharm and the armorcharm. They give a passive bonus on attack and defense, and it is a standard that every hunter keeps them all the time in their inventory for the stats boni. Later, if you have not already noticed from the crafting list, you can use the trinkets to craft even better trinkets which give more passive boni on attack and defense. By then you are going to carry four trinkets all the time to have passive boni on attack and defense during hunts. Hint: the trinkets will never be discounted, so you can buy them any time without the need to wait for a sale.

Check the item loadout suggestion below to see how it can impact your inventory at the start of a hunt.

15. Random Side Notes
- Elder Dragons cannot be trapped, no need to bring along traps or tranqs for them
- Running out of Rations? Remember you can "grill to go"
- Using Dango tickets increase the percentage of super Dango skills kicking in
- For more Dango tickets let Yomogi prepare for you steaks etc. on mass
- It is a legit tactic to collect hunter helpers (Turtle and Lanternbug for survival, Sleeping Toad and Blast Toad for EXPLOSION!)
- It is recommended that the one hosts the party who has unlocked most (food)
- do not forget to send your pals to gather items for crafting like Honey (Mega Potion), Thunderbug (Shock Traps) and Bitterbug (Catalyst for Demon/Armor Potions) etc.
- make use of Hunter Connect to team up easier with hunters you made friends with
- "crafting on the fly" allows you to carry more of what you use often without the need to go back to the tent to resupply
- Dust of Life: Healing others is no waste of time, as it can make THE difference between a quest failure and success - a good teamplay yields the best possible results after all

Happy Hunting!

Items Loadout Suggestion
The basis to which I adjust all my Items Loadouts is made of
https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/1820018420514918733/5A211E205B33FB8AE24F6964FBB9ED385D828516/

10x Mega Potions
2x Max Potions
10x Herbal Medicine
6x Nullberry
8x Tranq Bombs
1x Farcaster
2x Mega Barrel Bombs
2x Trap Tools + 2x Thunderbugs OR 2x Nets
1x Pitfall & 1x Shock Trap each
Powercharm, Powertalon, Armorcharm, Armortalon (endgame items)

For difficult monsters I add Mega Armorskin, Mega Demondrug, Adamant and Might Seeds, and Dash Juice. For Elder Dragons I take the trap stuff out and bring instead Flashbombs. Supporters are beloved for bringing powders to the hunt and allow anyone to benefit from them. Also, there is a skill which allows you to pass on buffs when consuming items to nearby hunters.

Stickers Suggestion
A few communication stickers I have on hotkeys are

Hello!
Ready!
Wait!
Over here!
Good job!
High five!
Thanks!
Bye!

In addition to that I recommend some auto-translated lines like

Can you post a quest?
I'm posting a quest.
Hang on a minute!
Ready to go!
Thanks for the hunts!

You can adjust everything to your liking and needs. Maybe you want something like

I need the target captured!
I need the target killed!
I need to get supplies!
Bring the target over here!
Getting Hunting Helpers!

And so on ~ also do not forget about the autoshouts. :lis_alex:

I "grew" into the franchise with gaijin hunter. Arrekz I know for a long time as well. There are of course other great YouTubers which cover a lot. Some you might not even know due to language barries.

By recommending you these videos I also recommend to you their channels for weapon tutorials e.g. Or something silly like this:

For Veterans
First: let me thank you for support, dear fellow advanced hunters. I know most of what I have written here are far from new. Yet it is up to us to pass on this knowledge so the newbies can enjoy Monster Hunter as much as we do. Special thanks to those who consider the original post of mine worthy to be awarded. One was very generous - I do not know who, but I can see what you have done. I certainly did this not for the points or awards, but it still makes me happy to see that kind of appreciation.
I wish you all wholeheartedly a great time with the game and community.

Top tier post. Can't pronounce your name, but thank you for your effort. This should be pinned.

only take one stack of potions from the supply chest. it's a courtesy to the other hunters, the only reason you should ever take a full 2 1/2 stacks is if you're running wide-range 5 and free meal, and plan to play a heavy healer, otherwise you're just being a jerk

1-3 are massive snowflake points. I am not going to greet every new individual I quickly meet.

3 Is also nonsense. There's a reason flinch free deco exists. It's just not always feasible to ''be considerate'' when 4 monsters and their pets are going nuts on a monster.

The rest is fine ,but 1-3 are just not needed.

I have added the hint about the supplies being for everyone. It is so obvious to me, it did not cross my mind someone might need that information.

My experience tells me the following: even if I post it with guides, those who need it most might see it last there. Everyone else knows already that I have something in the guides section for beginners. And the guide by Minorou covers everything.

This is someone who's been around for awhile.
I disagree with advanced hunting parties "knowing their roles". If you need something specific, everyone but status should be going for it. If you don't, everyone should go for the best hitzone (typically the head).

Everyone should be running flinch free if their weapon is vulnerable to staggered because the team will do way more damage if everyone can share the best hitzone at the same time.

HOWEVER, you don't start with flinch free. When progressing through the ranks, absolutely consider where your attacks go. Once you get to HR 7 though, assume everyone has flinch free and if they don't, and they get tripped, thats their fault for not taking the highest dps and survivability 1 slot deco.

No, you cannot expect everybody to use an armor skill just so you can attack the same point. Not everybody will even if it's a great idea.

So, when you play with randoms, assume your positions and try not to get in each other's way.

No. Everyone should be taking that skill if they are vulnerable to trips (gunners don't really need it and something like GS basically always has low grade super armor and can get away with not taking it).

Not taking flinch free means hurting your teams damage by a lot. People need to learn that not taking it and then getting tripped means you are doing the wrong thing. Go put it on. Honestly, if people don't have it, go out of your way to trip them so they really get it in their head to take flinch free every time.
Greb Jan 19, 2022 @ 10:06am
As all the ammo zooms into my inventory from the supply chest to the dismay of my LBG using friend who knows full well I'll never use a Bowgun in any of my hunts, meanwhile they're so starved for mega potions they have to eat the honey boosting dango since their traders are on ammo duty 24/7, I laugh a hearty laugh...HA HA! :pecs:

Allow me to thank you both for that interesting input of yours. To honour your comments, here is an additional reasoning why I did not put into the post "you must have flinch free":

I am personally convinced it suffice when the party knows what they do - but as an advanced hunter I also know that the decoration takes a slot. A slot which might or might not prevent you from having the perfect build. Taken that into consideration, I have opened up a new thread for you to discuss it. For, I like to see what others think - but without a disagreement which ends in a fight due two different yet valid opinions I both understand.

Thank you for being great, guys!
