Map Questions
Hey folks,
I have more questions about trivial stuff, sorry about that.

Is there a way to make custom pin points in MHR on the map like we could in MHW? I'm asking for stuff like plants, ore nodes, endemic life etc, not the large monsters. Also, is there a way to bring up those symbols on the mini map so I don't have to constantly open detailed map to see where I need to go? I was hunting for some ore nodes the other day, and oh brother, it was a bit painful... Map feels awful static and un-intuitive, and I'm not sure if it is like that or if I'm missing something?

Another question about the map is - I saw a couple of times a cross looking green icon on the map, what is it signifying? (Another time it was same symbol but purple). When i hovered over it in the detailed map, it gave me no answer as to what it was, and nothing on the map legend either.

at the final tab on the right, its called 'icon list selection'. you can open the legend and select a specific thing and it will ping that thing on the map where it can be found. this is the only kind of 'ping' system we have i believe
(apart from something else, which is literally 'pinging' your own position, that you do by clicking the menu or map button or something while the map is open idk this isn't what you want but mentioning it because i doubt anyone knows about it)

iirc you can't see icons on the large map on the HUD, but you can if you go into options and switch the default map to 'detailed'. :/

the weird cross things are environmental traps that deal some damage if you slam a ridden monster into it. just remember that sometimes they spawn in different areas for different quests so always check the map if you want to use one
I will take a closer look when I'm less tired to see if I can poke around the map settings some more. Thanks for pointers. I daresay, I miss interactivity of World map

I'm waiting for a mod to show gathering points in the minimap...

yeah, idk why it's not in the game tbh
If you hold the item button (L1 by default) it zooms in the minimap. The zoomed in minimap DOES have your map pins on it. Very useful.

what I meant was - it's a hassle to get to where I need to go bc there are no icons on the minimap and no bugs to lead me to any given locations. So when I'm looking for specific nodes, I have to endlessly open the detailed map to see if I'm in the correct area. It's a hassle and one QoL that should've been implemented from World in some shape or form. Iirc even minimap in World had node icons so you were aware of your surroundings somewhat better. Map is Rise has been significantly downgraded in terms of its functionality.

When on the map screen, you can use L1-R1 to "change category" which will display different icon types on the detailed minimap. One of the categories is "gathering" which will show you the gathering nodes. If you just want to see 1 type of node you can select it in the "icon list selection" and select "Icon list selection" under "change category"

As far as getting around, you'll have to learn how to get around the map by experience.

I don't disagree but it's the best you got. The zoomed in minimap still shows a fairly decent size. I have more trouble figuring out which damn direction I'm facing on the map if I don't hold L1 to zoom it in. There's definite room for improvement but nodes don't move and aren't random here so if you find something once, it's not that hard to remember for next time.
