MHR feels like a cheap copy of MHW
Everything seems like it is a downgrade and the monsters have the exact same animations and mechanics with just different name and model. I have seen others complaining about the graphics but I do not mind that. The aesthetic and art approach is more traditional japanesse and I can respect that. The configuration for our hunters is more limited in options in comparison. I am just very-VERY dissapointed with my purchase of MHR. I know that they are going to attempt to shove into our throats "dlc" cool stuff but come on...

was MHW your first game?
prior generations would give you a heart attack with how much they reuse lol

Yes MHW was my first game in the series since I am a PC gamer (no money to spend in anything else, and I use my pc for work as well). I have read that every MH game is supposed to be a unique experience but I am not sure I am going to like this one. MHW was really great, had a great story, cool options etc. I am just sad because I thought they would make an upgrade at continue bringing rephresing cool stuff. MHR feels clunky in comparison...

they’re very, VERY iterative games and you should treat them as independent experiences despite their similarities because of how weapon and enemy movesets shift around them. That sentiment is from the finesse of learning how to play around it well again, even if Rathian will always have an attack where she runs at you three times

Most returning monsters from World have significant adjustments or new behavior, plus weapon movesets have revisions or new tools to play around - try Switch Axe!

World didn't have a great story though? It was just shoved in your face more. Worlds story was slightly above average for the series at best.

And rise clunky compared to world? Lol.... Rise is smoother then world ever was.

Base world also has a TON of reused skeletons. Raadobaan, deviljho, barroth, black/diablos, uragaan. Raths, legiana. Etc etc.

Every Monster Hunter always reuses things, like movesets and especially the monsters. You'd be surprised how many monsters in World are from MH1, 2, and 3. World was a jump forward because it was a new generation. Now every MH game that comes out will be similar more or less to World until we get a true generation 6 and they inevitably add more QoL and yada, yada.

On another note though, It's the opposite for me. I've been jumping back and forth between Rise and World just because I love the franchise, but to be honest World feels so clunky to me now. The map is huge for absolutely no reason, you're very limited in how you move, weapons are just meh, the "hunting" (picking up tracks) is just a nuisance really.. it was novel when it first came out and cool, but now it's just in the way. I still like World a lot but Rise is better imo. Only thing I miss from World and would like to see return are Investigations.

MHW had a great story,

the WRITING was horrible but I really think they nailed the actual monster introductions and hyping up how each map worked as an ecosystem; whenever you weren’t being railroaded and could finally explore the maps while bumping into new faces was really cool

Rotten Vale’s initial expedition was an adventure EVEN IF it’s just running from point A to point B, because there’s so much going on visually on the way there and so much environmental context

In essence, bad writing, but great sense of adventure when it let loose

"You keep using that word. I'm not sure it means what you think it means."

it·er·a·tive,
/ˈidəˌrādiv,ˈidərədiv/,
adjective
relating to or involving iteration, especially of a mathematical or computational process.
denoting a grammatical rule that can be applied repeatedly.
another term for frequentative.

iterative
doing something again and again, usually to improve it

So, is your argument to the OP that both should be taken apart from each other because they are entirely unique experiences? Or, that both are iterative and that Rise is somehow improving on World?

No I mean monhun is done again and again, usually to improve it but sometimes it stumbles on the way and people prefer the last game, which has happened with every single installment

and also because when stuff gets reused other things change alongside it and the way we experience it is altered in turn, like picking up a new weapon or playing with a different person

Investigations.

I had some mixed feelings on how they were set up, but as far as procedurally generated quests go, definitely healthier than MH4U GQs
I chiefly appreciated how despite being the typical endgame grind (this time for decos), they atypically had you fighting random combinations of monsters even if you were targeting a specific threat level. Wouldn’t be hard to bring them back or some kind of marathon quest if their rewards were more proportional. Usually, the series doesn't reward you much for fighting anything that isn’t the quest target because a big portion of materials come from quest-specific rewards.

give me more of the “Advanced: Monster Hunter!” style quests where we fight assortments too, that’s another thing I appreciate World doing

Wouldn't mind more advanced quests. Investigations are dead and gone I'm pretty sure so that's all we'll have in Sunbreak. :zagpls:

yeah, there’s been a clear pattern of trolling, but I am too weak and/or dumb to hold grudges or expect people to make this much of a hobby out of it

probably right on investigations being gone, but at least we can count on event quests to be weird as always. Honestly I kind of want something like Guiding Lands to come back - preferably with a different system though haha

Given how little info we have on Sunbreak, if we don’t get anything shown off leading up to release, I assume it’ll just be a pretty standard expansion without anything super revolutionary

oddly enough, Guiding Lands killed my enjoyment of MHW. I really enjoy the routine of going around town, getting supplies, decide what mission I'm going on, check my gear, eat, and move out. With guiding lands it feels off somehow, like i'm just out there wandering around and beating up a bunch of monsters for shinies. i'm not sure what Rise has for an end game (just picked this up yesterday), but I'm okay with the older school vibe that it has so far, as long as the controls and camera are good.

Imho, the showing of all monsters in Rise killed my enjoyment of going through the game.

Anyways, for the OP: its Monster Hunter, you cannot expect them to not reuse the assets they have already.

Rathalos and Rathian have been with use since the beginning of the series.

Heck, flying wyverns have been with us since the beginning with little to no tweaks until recently.
Same with the elders, whose skeletons and basic, note BASIC, movesets were the same until...well, theyre still the same, just no more cushy Kushy

I am ok with them reusing assets, not so when they try to rebrand and show them as something new. I would expect them to add more weapon variety as well, like spears, dual swords, tonfus etc.

In MHW I really enjoyed the tracking system, the way to collect things, the atmosphere of a wild vast world. I don't see that in RISE. everything seems to have watered down. Even the food is less... I miss the slingshot too.

Riding your companion is weird and seems necessary if you want to transent to certain places. MHW also had a more Grim/Serious atmosphere at times.
