MONSTER HUNTER RISE

CB builds
got 2 cb builds
Ikaji immortal attack 6, wex3, bludgeoner3, artillery3, morph3, ff2
and
scream in the night drgonheart5, attack4, resentment3, resuscitate3, wex3, artillery3, free meal3, ff2 (full valstrax set)
the second one feels much much weaker except having much higher defence, even though I stay under 80% hp it still feels too weak especially fial damage, first one always triple digits per fial second one 60-80 depending if I get felyne bombardier. did I just waste the resources on valstrax set? and how does wex even work, at first I didn't have it on the first build and after putting it on I don't really see any difference. I hit parts that give yellow damage those are weak point right?

Not sure if they changed it in Rise but Weakness Exploit activated on any part with 45 hitzone value or more in World. Unfortunately there are situations where you get yellow numbers but it's still not 45, especially with higher sharpness.

to me, it sounds like you need to learn what actually modifies phial damage:

Phials cannot crit in Rise, so weakness exploit isn't a big deal for SAED builds. it's still useful but not super important

Phial explosions ignore all hitzones (weak or armored etc) and always deal the same amount of damage anywhere it hits the monster

Damage scales with Attack, Artillery skill, Bludgeoner skill, Dango Bombardier, Dulling Strike (rampage skill)

id highly recommend reading through this online guide to see what skills you should be using and stuff. don't need to copy them if you don't want to, but it can give you useful information: https://mhchargeblade.net/mhr/builds/

for example, you absolutely should have Load Shells 2, and there's no reason to not have Attack Boost 7.

the most obvious answer to your question is the fact that you're using a weaker weapon in the second build. ikaji immortal is specifically used to gain the highest phial damage because it allows you to use bludgeoner and dulling strike, which are two of the only 5 or 6 ways to increase your phial damage, and it has a massive base Attack value. the affinity doesn't matter since you're focusing on phials

might be able to make a phial build with ikaji immortal + valstrax, but the issue is that the valstrax set has some weak skills like weakness exploit, and doesnt have enough jewel slots to make up for it entirely. it's a good set for spinning axe builds because they do actually need weakness exploit

If you're playing for phial damage, then you should drop wex3 for ab7 since phials can't crit. You also need load shells.
