No idea about the stats yet. But kinda reminds me of the Defender stuff from Monster Hunter: World.

I have had mixed feelings about them in MH:W.

On the one hand as a player who played the game on PS4 before and wanting to go to Icebourne as quick as possible, I did not care much about using them. It just felt weird with the progression being messed up entirely for a long time.

On the other hand two players I have played with did give up on MH:W because of the Defender stuff. They had all the wrong impression about the game being easy, boring, unchallenging.

What do you think?

JP Twitter has the stats; the initial LS is 110 atk with a bit of green (starter is 50 with yellow), which means these will more than double the attack power of the starter weapons

I personally liked it because it let me get to the same point in the story as my mate was at so we could fight monsters together at the same difficulty level.

There was no real point in him being master rank and joining my low-high rank missions apart from speeding through them so we could fight the same tier monsters in the same tier gear.

Kinda sounds it is only to counter the "player goes first for Gathering Hub Aknosom" event. :MHRISE_Felyne:

Great if I decide to start a new character to play with new people, not that great for new people to franchise/game.

Surprised really. The village quest where already designed to teach players, I guess they want people to power the HR for.... reasons

Be prepared for the countless "don't use black belt armor" threads that where on the MH:WI forums (still pop up from time to time)

Hm? I do not remember that the stuff was actually bad for MH:W. Just overpowered.

defender is a case for removing the grind entirely not necessarily being a good thing because it destroys the pacing of the game; it’s complained about because it leaves people pampered through LR+HR and then in for an exorbitantly rude awakening for G rank

The argument against them not that it is bad for the game but bad for new players

The argument some world vets where saying was that the armor gear was very strong for brand new players and would put them in bad habits IE thinking they can tank lots of attacks. The players would then go into icebourne and get mollywoped by monsters because they didn't learn the importance of dodging, positions, prepping, etc. This would lead to them either quitting (like you said about your friends) or leaching/carrying.

While I do not have the hate boner that many have for these armor/weapons I do see the argument that it is bad for new players.

I guess its good for people who know what to expect in master rank, and bad for a little while for people who used it to coast through LR and HR that have no experience in game

LOL

All I can say is that I'm not surprised at all

I see. I was not active with MH:W forums so I did not know it caused quite so many upset forums threads.

From what Plumber wrote maybe it will be not that bad. But nonetheless it is still something which I hope Capcom make a proper introduction so that new players will not get into some sort of "trap".

It would be saddening if a tool which is meant to bring players together (assumingly those who want to catch up for Sunbreak) actually brings more issues into the community.

I am afraid to imagine already some comments like "great, they decided to make an easy game even easier".

Pacing was already pretty weak for me in this game, having played through World already, I blazed through LR without upgrading any of my armor once. I guess they just want to attract players who are scared to play the game for the first time because it looks too difficult.

I dunno, it's not a big deal to me. I doubt it will just make the game less fun for anyone, but I'm not sure it would make it more fun either.

They won't have that problem in Rise because of a certain new mechanic people love with a free get out of jail card with minimal cooldwon :mhwhappy:

I dont know what you've done to make the monsters so angry but 99% of the time when i get hit, the monster doesn't do a follow up attack so it makes no difference, 0.5% of the time the monster combo's when you wirefall and the final 0.5% of the time it might make a smidge of difference.
Bishop Feb 17, 2022 @ 1:00am
It's is bad in terms that it makes 90% of existing weapons useless garbage. And if we take World for example some of these weapons (like LBG one) were straight out best there was making everything else irrelevant.
♋Phenex Feb 17, 2022 @ 1:16am
Welp more threads will pop up with new players asking the same thing as in World so history repeats itself.

But as always don't plan on using them unless the weapons are BiS. The armor is redundant as guild cross is already available.
