Upgrading the kitchen comes with fulfilling urgent quests. That way you unlock higher grades of an effect.
The Dango quests are for "flavour" aka new kind of skills. Whether they are worth it or not is in fact yours to decide.
As far as I know, all important skills are unlocked by normal playing without doing any extras.
missed opportunity, they could made chases cool with wirebugs.
No exaggeration there. I was utterly surprised with my old fashioned cautiousness.
You no longer drop the egg when you run out of stamina.
You no longer drop the egg for making a dodge roll.
You can basically jump dozens and dozens of stories down - as long as you wirebug in time before touching the ground you still keep the egg safe and sound.
Probably one of the best improvements in the gameplay design with Monster Hunter.
And still the developers seemed to be super cautious not to make it an important requirement for something like in older installments.
I am even missing some quests with some other items. Like the colourful grantie or the ice block. Once I brought a golden Gargwa egg back just for funsies, because it was so easy to begin with.
Eh, perhaps I'll try it then once I have no other quest left. I mean, I used to find them annoying in general, even in World where you could roll without cracking the egg. I am surprised you could wirebug with the egg, that's very surprising.
and you always know where big monsters are on the map
