You can even use affinity skills to get the negative affinity weapons like tigrex weapons to stop doing reduced damage.
Any percentage above 0% is that much chance to do 1.25x damage, potentially improved by Critical Boost. Any percentage below 0% is that much chance to do 0.75x damage (iirc).
That skill is actually pretty terrible.
Better off going for high affinity.

i think it would be powerful if it was guarantee as u can just boost your attack, and crit boost might boost it also.
only balanced by u not being able to get negative affinity, and brute strike itself is 25%.
since this will completely negate needing to get wex and crit eye.
to answer your question, weapons with zero affinity can gain affinity from skills.
