BRAVELY DEFAULT II

the first boss is poorly designed.
like it genuinely amazes me how horrible and poorly designed the first boss is. especially if your playing on hard. she nearly heals more than the damage you can output, it's almost as if nobody tested it or thought "hmm maybe, lets not give the first boss you fight infinite heals" i would not be surprised at all if the people at square didn't even playtest hard. it took nearly 20 minutes of back and forth saving up defaults and was straight up frustrating and boring. one of the worst bosses i have ever fought in a JRPG.

Huh? It's a pretty easy boss, just spam throwables (axes etc) for big damage. You literally can't lose as the guest NPC will keep reviving any fallen party members.

Oh I've lost before.

And the OP is right, I would say the first boss might be the worst designed in the game. The fact Sloan targets randomly means you can't really rely on him to help widdle down a specific one of the two, and Dag will force characters to target him, so even if you do manage to get Selene down a bunch you often simply can't keep it up. Combine that with Selene's propensity for consistent healing + protect, it really get tedious....you often get back to almost square one.

As for throwables? I suppose if you've abused Forage you might have a few of those, but that requires having spammed Forage.

Incidently it actually ISN"T infinate, she can run out of MP (as can a lot of bosses in the game).

well it might as well be infinite cause thats all she did was cast heal and protect, then the other guy defaults up to max turns kills 2 people. then i gotta wait till the NPC uses phoenix down and have everybody else default. like again, i would not be surprised if they did not test the actual fight at all considering most modern developers just throw in a hard mode without ever testing it.

Hard mode doesn't really change much beyond the speed that enemies move.
That said, you do have some stuff you can do. Selene is weak to Fire and Dag is weak to Thunder. Spending most of your turns Defaulting will keep damage incurred way down (you should basiclaly always be doing this for bosses). If you have potions (or Freelancer's Treat) you can keep your health topped off so Sloan will use his turn to attack. Etc etc.

Second this. I need to Default everyone to 3 bp and full Brave everyone to take Selena out first.

You act like this isn't a normal valid strategy....

Every time you default you take 50% damage. Thus you want to default as much as possible. Getting up to 3 BP then doing four actions is pretty much the general strategy you should be doing most of the time.

It's not normal if you new to the game. This is also my first Brave game. Never play the first 2 game.

My first game and the first boss. Yeah I was not expect this. After ten minutes with unkillable boss. Ok the game want me to give it my all even on the first boss. So I alt f4 and fight the boss again. This time I 3 round the boss. Good time.

The game basically design for you to chees as much as possible. It either you crush boss or boss crush you. There is no between.

In fairness guy the game legit straight-up tells you "it's usually best to start combat with filling your BP first and guarding often after" or something to that effect in a text box that I can only assume you skipped (despite being a first time player?) or just forgot

But yeah the game tells you that, it absolutely is normal regardless if you're new or a vet because the game goes out of its way to tell you that it should be your go-to strategy, it being your first BD isn't really an excuse considering how much the game wants to make sure you're not confused

That boss was a joke, pretty basic tutorial fight. Just gotta use what the games been teaching you along the way. Plus Examining weaknesses and exploiting them is a big deal of any turn based rpg. If I really wanted to I could've nuked Selene if the old man didn't kill steal lol.

I have never played a bravely game and have heard a lot of insults about its boss designs and hard mode. But I felt invincible on this boss and it took a couple minutes or something. You're definitely missing some basics. I guess I'll have to progress and see if people are just weirdly ignorant of general strategy or something. Not really far yet though.

I gotta say the boss with gigachad Galahad aka Charlie Nash as I've nicknamed him was pretty fun. That fight is actually ridiculous because all the sidekicks have an insane amount of immunities, then you got Not-Nash facetanking for them, and then the thing in the back is capable of using White Wind to heal them all.

the OP is very noob in jrpg, finish the game on hard mode without even changing it and no problem.
