How to beat Bernard?
I've been away from the game for several months.

After picking it back up, I remember still being stuck at Bernard. ( Boss ) He has a lot of HP. Tips / Advice? thanks

i found him much easier than expected. i was kind of drunk but i believe i used bard and kept stacking the song that lessens the impact of physical damage and then just hit him with what ever weakness he had and healed my party. And obviously defaulting a lot.
i think my party was 2 vanguards a bard and a white mage (bard with subclass black magic. make freelance sublcass on the rest and body slam the ♥♥♥♥ out of him along with whatever heavy hitting heroics

sorry not much of a strategy

He is still wiping the floor with me. :(

Might be the end of my journey. I have a Vanguard, Black Mage, White Mage, and monk I believe...

the monk didnt seem to hit very hard for me whereas vanguard gives a good wallop.
♥♥♥♥ now that i think about i might have had a berserker in there. Man its all kind of a blur. I also spent some time leveling up different jobs on characters so my level might be a tad higher.,

I just beat him with four white mages (level 17 too). *shrug*
Granted easy mode but I doubt it'd have made much of a difference.

I may just start over.

It wouldn't take me THAT LONG to get back to Bernard & and I forgot a lot of the mechanics...

So there is a leveling trick you can do where you are currently at in the game, you can MAX a job to level 12 in 30-45 minutes. There is a youtube video showing it off - but basically you reach a high enough level that the enemies by the ocean (just south of savalon city) flee from you. (If you are at Bernard, you might be high enough now). You corral the enemies along the ocean until you have atleast six or more bunched up together in a corner where the ocean meets the mountains. With six or more consecutive enemy encounters, you get triple EXP, JP, and Money for all battles fought, and if you wait to fight until night - the enemy groups are larger. I was getting 1000 JP each time I did this - I maxed out freelancer first to get both JP UP abilities, then I was maxing jobs left and right. The return on your time feels really rewarding xD Bernard didn't know what hit him.

Or you could, ya know, not overlevel and use actual strategy (seems to be a foreign concept with most players of this game....)

Here's what I suggest:
-Have two characters with white magic and Solar-Powered (and make sure it's active, i.e. be in the mansion during the day). Give one the Staff of Life and use it as an item if you want to further keep your MP usage down. Have at least one of these be Seth or Gloria so you can use the special.
-Equip bows and axes on your damage dealers.
-Kill the mooks ASAP. It's a good time to use Zeus's Wraths if you have any (or other throwing items, especially ones that hit weaknesses).
-Default as little as possible. He can steal your BP when you do it.
-If he hits you with Godspeed Strike, heal that character immediately if you can.
-Keep plenty of mini-ethers on hand as he can steal your MP.

over leveling is a strategy as much as listing a set of instructions for equipment, jobs to use, and who to hit when and what moves to make.
2 vanguards 1 white mage and a bard or whatever else should take care of him. if you are low level at a particular job it is not cheating to level your character. Leveling is of a staple of rpgs.
So far two vanguards a healer and bard have been very effective for me in boss fights. Whooped Rodney (Roddy?) with a few neo strikes and his dragon buddy with lightening spells
Im going back to fight Shirley now.
playing on normal difficulty
But yeah dont start over there is no need to do that. Just fight some mobs and remember how to play.

Beastmaster + Beast Whisperer support on every character will break the game balance, even on the hardest difficulty.

whats your char lvl? go and grind some bee's with nectar effect at the first are around first town. Very fast way to get to the point to beat him. He will be still strong but you will have no probs if you have right job combos like bard, mage, tanky monk etc well many combinations are working ^^

So at the start of the game right outside the first city there is a beach, you can "herd" all the monsters there from one end to the other (starting close to the rare monster) and getting them all bunched up and triggering combat nets you like 900+ jp per go (takes like 2 minutes to round em up) wo you can use this to max out your jobs quickly.
Now as for what jobs, freelancer for the JP up and JP up and up (boosts JP earned by 70% when used together) and the beastmaster job, once maxed out it gets a passive that gives you a stat buff for every monster you capture with NO CAP. You can cheese alot of the game like this lol
