Should I always have a sub class equipped? Does it slow leveling of the job?

the only reason you equip your sub is to have access to the sub's actives during combat. I kinda wish the specialties carry over as well, but they don't.

Chapter 3 jobs spoiler : Spiritmaster learns a passive which allows your subjob's first specialty to take effect. Swordmaster's second specialty enables both of the subjob's specialties as long as you dual wield weapons from the same weapon type.

Chapter 6 spoiler : There is a 24th job, unlocking pretty late, that learns a passive which allows your subjob's second specialty to take effect.
