It has even 4K/360fps support for future hardware possibilities.
But it's really depends on the hardware.
It seems your configuration not fit your hardware.
Some of the info from guide may help.
If it does not help and you think it is bug, better to file bug on dev.
They are working on patches.

Sad, but... Perhaps they ll fix it and I through out the money again, but for now its refund and any other game to distract me from my disappointment here :(
btw, I have a very basic PC-controller-setup: Mouse and keyboard( both wired). If THAT causes issues in a game released for PC the issue is not on my side.
Though there are different kinds of keyboards, some are not good.
However... most japanese devs are, like, absolute clueless about Quality of Life features (e.g. keys rebinding). So you often get something as "ZXC + arrows" (which personally i play much worse, cause it's wasd + iopk for ~20 years i play games) as unchanchable default, and they display gamepad buttons in tutorials/menus instead of kb keys :( And this also happen to other genres, not only shmups but whatever, including RPG games (which can also be resolution locked to 480p, lol)
This game should have had, at least, PDF manual with all controls explained for all possible control types....
Well, there is lots of words for DEVs who need to hire other DEVs( or even volunteers) to make their codes work... I dont think it d be nice to quote any of these here ;)
I understand the icons are confusing especially for "X".
Keyboard setting is available for display and customization.
Default is Xbox as PC standard, but you can change in menu.

CZI: Thanks again, but my refund is done already, so no assistance needed any more from my side. Maybe someone else finds it helpfull though :)
I must note, though, that controllers were never exclusive to consoles, and gamepads were for PCs since mid-to-late 90s, and in late 80s there were joysticks also.
But yeah, such situation feels like... developer being either lukewarm or inattentive
This is a $24.95 AU at best not double that amount.
So I shall stick with many other similar games I have.
Plus I honestly don't think it even looks like an R-Type game anymore.
All good I read many seem to be enjoying it for what it is but its not for me sadly.
Wangy-Boy: A game that is obviously programmed, UI- and control-wise, to be played on consoles and kinda accidently is playable on PCs too( at least some seem to be able to play it on PC at least) is as close to a later "Console-to-PC-port" as it can be. Just that it happened directly at release.
Besides: You re not my frikkin mom, stop telling me what to "learn". If you happen to be my mom in disguise: I ll bring your tupperware around next week, K?
Remember Attic Attack!
No I'm not your mum I was born in England. Nothing wrong with Tupperware!
