Bad port from Console to PC
I bought this game, despite the pricetag( which is ridiculous for a shmup, imo). And I didnt even get to play the actual game. First I strongly dislike "cheap and hasty" ports from consoles to PCs, where the GUI asks me to hit buttons a PC just doesnt have.
Then the settings menu alone has been a nightmare. Just switching off the music proved to be impossible on PC for me. I mean, I could get to the place where the setting is and I even could turn the music-volume down, but then I have no idea how to get back from this menu again. No single button( and no combo I could think of either) worked. Instead the cursor appeared and disappeared randomly. Sorry, bros n sis, but right now I cant recommend this.

If the DEVs make the very basics of this game work on PC I might reconsider spending money on it, but for now I m refunding it.
Sad, because I felt really nostalgic about R-Type and wanted to play it, but... No, just no.

I think PC is the best platform for this game.
It has even 4K/360fps support for future hardware possibilities.
But it's really depends on the hardware.
It seems your configuration not fit your hardware.
Some of the info from guide may help.
If it does not help and you think it is bug, better to file bug on dev.
They are working on patches.

Thank you for the effort answering with hints( no pun, srsly THX, cause thats a kind move :) ), but I m past the age where I can accept paying AA-prices for subpar/hasty game-development, which the issues I ran in are a pretty clean sign for. And I just do not have the patience for trying to fix issues that are created by said "not that thorough development-process".

Sad, but... Perhaps they ll fix it and I through out the money again, but for now its refund and any other game to distract me from my disappointment here :(

btw, I have a very basic PC-controller-setup: Mouse and keyboard( both wired). If THAT causes issues in a game released for PC the issue is not on my side.

Keyboard must be just perfect for shmup. This is not fighting game where you need to do circle motions or press several buttons at time. Also, both keyboard and arcade stick are better than gamepad for "2d gameplay" games due to construction and approach.

Though there are different kinds of keyboards, some are not good.

However... most japanese devs are, like, absolute clueless about Quality of Life features (e.g. keys rebinding). So you often get something as "ZXC + arrows" (which personally i play much worse, cause it's wasd + iopk for ~20 years i play games) as unchanchable default, and they display gamepad buttons in tutorials/menus instead of kb keys :( And this also happen to other genres, not only shmups but whatever, including RPG games (which can also be resolution locked to 480p, lol)

This game should have had, at least, PDF manual with all controls explained for all possible control types....

Or need to contract Durante more times (legendary coder who fixed dark souls, if you forgot)

^^ I 'member ;)

Well, there is lots of words for DEVs who need to hire other DEVs( or even volunteers) to make their codes work... I dont think it d be nice to quote any of these here ;)

I understand the icons are confusing especially for "X".
Keyboard setting is available for display and customization.
Default is Xbox as PC standard, but you can change in menu.

Icon setting for keyboard.

Johnny Wang: Why does it have all those neat icons for what buttons on a (console-)controller you should hit then?

CZI: Thanks again, but my refund is done already, so no assistance needed any more from my side. Maybe someone else finds it helpfull though :)

I must note, though, that controllers were never exclusive to consoles, and gamepads were for PCs since mid-to-late 90s, and in late 80s there were joysticks also.

But yeah, such situation feels like... developer being either lukewarm or inattentive

Thats the point, thank you, Daikatan :)

The price simply stopped my interest.

This is a $24.95 AU at best not double that amount.

So I shall stick with many other similar games I have.

Plus I honestly don't think it even looks like an R-Type game anymore.

All good I read many seem to be enjoying it for what it is but its not for me sadly.
Nim May 1, 2021 @ 4:39pm
Yeah, Chelle... I sat here, saw "New R-Type", had a flashback to my teens when I hung in front of my Amiga sinking nights into the first R-Type and decided "Buy it, start download, do the household choires and then disappear into space". Well, as mentioned didnt get past the initial preference-settings, as mentioned :/

Wangy-Boy: A game that is obviously programmed, UI- and control-wise, to be played on consoles and kinda accidently is playable on PCs too( at least some seem to be able to play it on PC at least) is as close to a later "Console-to-PC-port" as it can be. Just that it happened directly at release.
Besides: You re not my frikkin mom, stop telling me what to "learn". If you happen to be my mom in disguise: I ll bring your tupperware around next week, K?

ZX 80 ( kit form ) ZX 81 then the Vic 20 then ZX Spectrum 48k followed by the 128k version...Moved up to an Amiga then a mighty 386 SX followed by 486 DX with the mighty maths coprocessor and though to the 200 MMX then a Thunderbird cpu somewhere in the mix right on and on till today...

Remember Attic Attack!

No I'm not your mum I was born in England. Nothing wrong with Tupperware!

The "Mom"-part has been adressed at Johnny Wang, who seems to seek the position of an adult... On STEAM! :D

All Japanese games are expensive on here. It's so they don't make an alt-account and buy it here for less. That's what I get to get Super Robot Wars, and that was really expensive too. however yeah, it should be 19.99. I mean they even had backers to make the thing so it's all paid for.
