trine 5 upgrade problem
Not sure if anyone else is having this problem, but I'm playing on switch and no matter WHAT I do, (no matter how much I press A) it will not let me upgrade the skills for my characters. Please help!

Have you already upgraded your gathered experience into skill points at a grand checkpoint? If not, you cannot upgrade them yet. You will find your first grand checkpoint in the 4th level (first level of act 2).

We have heard of this once before now, it seems there is possibly a bug on Switch that causes this. We are looking into it.

The other user reported like this: "Yes this is happening after the first grand checkpoint. The Upgrade tutorial is not allowing an upgrade to be purchased and so I’ve moved on in the game but the tutorial message remains" + Have you tried to exit the game and resume your save? "Yes tried that as well as power cycled the Switch - also I’ve just uninstalled and redownloaded but the issue persists."

Does that match what you're experiencing? A very strange bug but it seems it can happen...

You can also try to either quit and restart the game, or redownload the game, and perhaps most importantly delete the savegames within the game and outside of the game.

Nintendo's instructions on how to delete the game save data:
https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/27449/~/how-to-manage-%2F-delete-game-save-data

Sadly that will of course delete your progress... but it's worth a shot.

Technical explanation: I suspect something is going wrong with the "options" file which won't get deleted when you delete save games within the game itself. And it probably isn't deleted upon redownload either. I suspect that there's a "skill_upgrade_tutorial completed" or such flag that is not getting marked correctly and that causes the issue.

Now, once you have deleted the data, the big question is whether or not it will happen again. You may try pressing the Minus button (if I remember right for the Switch controller, it might be something else) to bring up the Customize/Upgrade menu and see if you can trigger the upgrade tutorial earlier than prompted in Level 4...

I had reported this issue and submitted a bug report but I did just find something that worked for me. Changing the game type from single player to local multiplayer fixed the issue and I was able to progress/purchase upgrades. Great game! Glad to be playing it

And even greater to hear, thanks for the workaround, if this happens to other folks we'll suggest this as well. Enjoy the game! :)

Trine 5 Switch Update 1.0.3 is out now.
Maybe it fixes that bug.

Sadly I am also affected by this issue. I'm a steam user. I can customise the look and feel of the characters but I can't select the skills tree option. I tried the workaround mentioned above, no luck.

Hi manes,

As far as I’ve heard this is the first time this has happened outside of Switch. Did you happen to do anything special around the first grand checkpoint like quit the game in the middle of the tutorial or something similar? Or did this happen just during a normal playthrough?

I’ll try and dig around a bit maybe tonight or latest by tomorrow and give you guys an update if I spot something.

We most likely have this fixed internally, I saw our QA testing it today. Looking at the fix briefly a workaround for PC would most likely be to use mouse to click/purchase an upgrade after which the controller should continue working again (e.g. the tutorial finishes once the first upgrade is bought).

I failed to reproduce this so I can't guarantee that this would work, but looking at how things are implemented it should.

Hope this helps

This happens to you because even though you can't see it, the mouse pointer is over the 'customize the look' icon. Move the mouse up or anywhere and the menu will work.

Note: It happens playing with an xbox controller.
