Steampunk Engine Room Crystal Pattern Bug
In the Steampunk DLC Engine room, the spinning gears created the same pattern for all 3 gears. The pattern was always the red one shown on the hint page (aka the "loopy" pattern). Regardless of which color crystal you used and which gear you put it into, it would always generate the same loopy pattern. The scale of it was different because the gears were still different sizes, but the general patterns was always the same. It even got to a point where I thought we had to use the wrench in the game to adjust the gears because I realized it was impossible to solve. In order to get past it without brute forcing it, I had to look up the answer online. Even though the crystals were in the correct final position, they still all produced the loopy pattern, but at least i was able to get the propeller.

What's interesting is that this happened to my partner as well playing on a different computer on her own copy of the game. We usually play at the same time and compete to see who can finish the room first. This was the one time that we both got completely stuck and could not proceed.

What's even more odd is that after watching a video of someone solving it and seeing the patterns you expect to see, I loaded up the room again and immediately noticed the radius of the gear track for the right most one was way smaller than what I had seen in the first play through (I spent over 30min staring at those gears it so I could easily tell). After placing the blue crystal in, it actually produced the correct pattern!

It seems like a bug maybe on the first play through where the left most gear track is replicated to all the others. I don't think I can verify if the fix is in place as it seemed to have fixed itself, but wanted to make this post as I haven't seen this reported yet and it completely ruined the play through for us.

Other info:
- Played on PC, Windows 10 (both of us)
- Just purchased the DLC and installed the DLC yesterday (Oct 23, 2024)
- Both of us were playing single player separately

Yeah, we're aware of this issue. A level restart has been found to temporarily resolve this, though we’re actively investigating the root cause to implement a more permanent fix.

Thank you for your patience.

I also just played the DLC and encountered this issue, so assume it probably broke in a new update

I also encountered this issue and was wandering for a half an hour around thinking what I was doing wrong. Without walk-through - officially unsolvable due to this issue. Had to lookup online.

Don't trust math in game engine in this case. Use pre-determined path. Slight hiccup in CPU or something and your pattern is off.

Also drones insides were detached and glitching in the air when it was flying.

Is there any way to pass this? I am stuck in the level because of this bug. This basically ruins the whole experience.

UPDATE: so it seems that if you put the crystals correctly you manage to pass regardless of incorrect patterns drawn. Furthermore, the order you start the rotation will trigger the bug: e.g. if you start with the right lever (blue) it will affect the pattern for middle and left. So basically I am able to reproduce the bug more or less consistently.

Most interesting. Thanks for doing this. Gonna forward that to our QA team.

Btw happy Holidays! 🎄

I too spent ages trying to figure this out tonight (so frustrating) and even with restarting the level it still didn't work. Alnmost asked for a refund for the DLC.
Can you please add a "skip this if bugged" button?

Thank you for your patience. [/quote]

dr_rpg25,

you mentioned you are able to reproduce this bug more or less consistently. Could you please write the reproducing steps in more detail?

- Are you able to reproduce it in singleplayer?
- After putting away the fire do you go directly to this puzzle?
- In what order do you put in the crystals?
- Where do you put them (inner or outer circle of the cogwheel)?
- Do you pull the handle after each crystal you insert or all 3 handles at the end?

Any extra info would be helpful and appreciated.
