Sevastopol - please can we change Flag ship?
I love the game to bits, with all its flaws, but one thing that really nags me is that we have to choose Sevastopol as our Flagship. She is somewhat useless, to be honest. Far, far to costly to take into combat, as it takes a fortune to repair her. She is a glorified tanker with Intel Support and some defense actions and most sadly she is slower than most enemy strike groups or even traders. You could make adjustments right at the start of the game to make her more viable, but time and cost are not on your side, in addition it is a tedious task if you don't have a design template and have to make the changes every time you restart the campaign...and that happens a lot in this game :D
So I guess most folks will simply leave her as is or just make some small changes to speed her up a bit. That does not change the fact that she is completely overpriced for her role and takes up too many funds that could have been spend to make her a more viable flag ship.

I would love to see that we can design our own Flagships and pick it at the start of the campaign. The design of course would need to meet certain requirements. Examples: Flag Ship Module, certain amount of gold invested, certain amount of tonnage, etc. That way we can design Flagships that might fit the players strategy better and have the Flagship actually excel at something.

PS: Please dear devs, implement a delete design function in the design workshop! I would be eternally grateful. :steamhappy:

You can make any ship design into a flagship, it is just a bit unintuitive/tedious/sketchy. If you go into the steammap folder, there will be folders of ship designs. If you modify the file with text in it to add 'm_flagship=true' the game will then identify that ship as a flagship.

Delete design function is already in the game (although buggy) or you can also do it in the steammap folder

Can't find any text file, tried reading one of the ship designs with notepad (which took ages to load it all in) and no line there that says m_flagship=false or true or anything.

There is no need for that. Sevastopol is only there to support your fleet. You should use Sevastopol in combat in only one case - against SG. You can actually use it all time, but you need to understand how to abuse city with fast repair. You should never repair Sevastopol more, than 1 day. Eventually some modules will be gone, and these can be hard to find, but you can still repair base hull and armor. It is near impossible to destroy even half of it's weapons, so no matter what, you will be armed most of a time. I wouldn't recommend to change flagship, since it was designed specifically for a campaign.

I haven't been able to delete a ship design in game yet. The delete button doesn't highlight during ship selection. Is there a work around because so far I have been deleting them manually from the steam folder.

try back and forth with cursor, and eventually it will be selected

Yo Walrus, is there anywhere in particular in the design file that the flagship line should go, or literally as a new line anywhere?
Predator M69 Jul 30, 2021 @ 11:20pm
you have to place the m_flagship=true under the m_playable=true tag like in the Sevastopol file

I'd like a Longbow for my flag, cheers!

Its not the repair time, its the cost. I have been playing for a long time now. Sevastopol is just too expensive to repair and not useful. This is a rougelike game and efficiency matters greatly. if you don't want to cheat or change the game files, this Flagship is just a burden.

You can't delete the workshop ships, only campaign modified ones through the folder.

Actually, you can just put in the same segment/block (indicated by braces { })

@ all other reading this:

I would like to point out that Sevastopol seria file is not 1:1 to ordinary seria files belonging to other designs. It may be related to the tutorial (probably) but unless you want* unexplained crashes or bugs later in game - rather open a copy of Sevastopol in shipworks and edit that file (you will still need to add "m_flagship=true") into your hearts desire.

*just pointing out the risk, not saying it is 100% so

you are correct, people just repost stuff without actually knowing. In the steam ship folder only campaign designs are saved, not the workshop ships that you can pick at the beginnig of the campaign. I have not figured our how or where the actual workshop ships are kept. That's also why I can't figure out how to delete the workshop designs.

I'll give a shot at explaining how I changed the Sevastopol:
Started the game, went to shipwork instead of campaign, loaded the Sevastopol, modified it, saved it as Sevastopol MK2.
Then exited the game and went to "[where I have steam installed]\Steam\steamapps\common\HighFleet\Ships"
Opened "Sevastopol MK2.seria" with Notepad++, searched for m_playable=true value, and then added the line m_flagship=true value below it.
Then next time I ran the game it let me replace the default Sevastopol with my MK2 version.

I think the folder at HighFleet\Objects\Designs is what you are looking for.
