Multiple Friendly ships in battles?
Loving the game so far, but one of the biggest turn off's so far is the inability to bring multiple friendly ships into battles (I could be wrong about this, and if so disregard all of this :Guardsman:). There are some cases where multiple of your ships are in "battles", like when there are missiles being fired at you, and your fleet is grounded with all of them trying to shoot down the missile together. Its "in the game" So why not have it for Ariel combat as well? I can understand wanting to have some sort of balance as humans are smarter than AI, although it would be nice to just have those others ships you have flying out there with you, helping you take down enemy ships. Like I said before I am absolutely loving this game, the visuals, sounds, and ship designer are amazing, compared to Airships, or Starsector there is almost no competition...except for that big turnoff which does makes it a hard choice.

+1, this kind of "fake difficulty" always annoys me in games. Game is called "HighFleet" but i'm always solo against a fleet of enemies.

Yeah, this is a huge issue with the games design. In every other regard, the game is focused on providing a fleet command vibe but fails to actually let you use your ships in a tactical way.

AA ships are parked behind your capital ships in missile/plane defenses, the enemy always gets to use their numbers but you don't, the enemy nuked your capital but for some reason they will get mad at you if you fire nukes, a lot of pretty dumb decisions were made.

This is exactly the strategy/arcade hybrid the devs set out to create. Strategizing which ship to bring into battle first, second, third, etc and then fighting with said ships in a pew pew arcade tag team manner is exactly how the devs intended the game to play. Even the ship landing sequence is reminiscent of an old arcade style game. Anyone following the game for the past few years realized this.

One man's trash another man's treasure I beleive the age old saying goes.

I hope you can enjoy it, I really love the aesthetic of the game and the general feel of it all, but I can't get into the combat, always being outnumbered and taking a constant stream of laser guided fire means I have to constantly repair which means I am spotted by the enemy and it just leads to a slow attrition of failures mounting up. I really wanted to like this game but I think I have just hit my wall and am already over trying to "figure it out."

On the other hand, if we had AI controlling our ships and they were getting wrecked I wouldn’t like that and prefer to control each one manually. There’s already plenty of games that let you control multiple units for fights. This is a more arcadey take on that and I love it haha
Necroscourge Jul 28, 2021 @ 12:31pm
Yeah, making a poor design decision and saying "It's arcadey! don't you like that!?" in the middle of a hard core strategy game is just idiotic. Because now we have to ignore all of the strategy in the game and only focus on the arcade aspect.

Meaning yes, the developer wasted their time making the entire strategy map because it;s ruined by really bad arcade combat.

Well, one thing that is easy to click is the refund button thankfully 👍

Unfortunately I am over two hours now, or I would be returning it. I have posted my negative review so others who agree with my salt can find solidarity. I really wanted to like this game and a part of me still does, just hate this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ arcade combat and how accurate these enemy ships are, especially since im always outnumbered.

I’m pretty sure gameplay videos of combat have been on YouTube for a while so it shouldn’t have been a surprise.

I'm only a little way into the game but I very much get the feeling you're not supposed to STAY in battle with a single ship. You're supposed to bring in units that might be capable of inflicting some damage and pick off enemy or at least damage, and then RETREAT so you can bring in the next unit. I get the sentiment however, as a real battle would not take place that way but RETREAT is likely an important tactic to whittle down units.

Welcome to steam! Refunds are not that easy, you have to do it right after you buy the game before you play for two hours.

^ Yes obviously they balanced the combat for you to need to use your other ships. So keeping your fleet healthy becomes an important part of the game.

If they made the game with AI controlled friendly ships they would bring in more enemy units and make them stronger. Just different design choices.

I'd rather play that game.

I definitely is a fusion of two gameplay styles that runs the risk of not pleasing either target audience... I fall into the camp of enjoying everything BUT the arcade combat as well. Not saying its badly designed or anything, but it feels at odds with the rest of the game that I enjoy immensely. Built or earned yourself a cool ship? Tough ♥♥♥♥ it just got ganked by three missile spamming little ♥♥♥♥♥ you couldnt see in the rain and overwhleming visual effect clutter...

I think most of us here would have preferred a more strategy oriented combat with fleet vs fleet rather than the skill based 1 v 3 that they went with. I've said it before,, the main problem is that its a roguelike which always compromises grand-scale concepts for lesser ones. But while I'm not sold on the solo ship combat, I do think it is perfectly fun. Try to think of the combat as a 2-step process. 1st fire your volley and then maneuver to advantageous positions. You can get enemy ships to shoot each other, for instance.

And like someone else here said, if the A.I. we're controlling ships and getting anhilated, you would be just as if not more angry.
