If anyone remembers Stratosphere: Conquest of the Skies (1998), how does it compare to this?

I loved and really miss playing Stratosphere and several aspects of this game reminds me of it. How similar are they?

Not very much like that at all to be honest... I think you're looking for something more like Black Skylands. However, if you ever played Hammerfight this is the same developer and you can see how that game evolved into this one quite easily by playing that. In contrast, this game layers in a tremendous amount of strategy elements whereas the predecessor was far more action oriented. There's a ton of room for creativity in both designing ships and how you play the game. Keep in mind, past the Prologue the game won't pull many punches as it hearkens back to an era where games didn't expect you to quit easily. I'd of course, highly suggest looking up some gameplay footage on YouTube or Twitch though it is a fairly obscure title.
